NICKEL,DIME

NICKEL,DIME

Ah
I remember the end of the end of nickel and dime bags here in my region.

That was the early eighties.

I was very young.

And you could still get a bag of weed called the nickel or dime bag.

Which simply meant a five dollar bag or ten dollar bag.

And as far as I remember tham there was no actaul weight amout, as it was considered a small amout and why go through the hassle.

There were no digital scales then.

And triple beams were expensive.

And if you had one and someone saw it, they KNEW you must be a dealer.

Here's how I remember what is what when talking to the younger generation. Schwag is what I called dirt weed when I was their age. Mids would be commerical Mex back in the day and dank is Thai/Hawaiian from back then. It works for this feeble mind. YMMV. Now like beauty, it's all in the eye of the beholder. One man's schwag is another's mids and yet another's dank. I'll grow my own and make myself feel like a young rebel again and leave the terms for my kids to use. That's how I roll. lol

I always thought of Dank as stinky or strong smelling,..

Anyone remember the old skunk bud around the early 80's could be noticed 10 feet away in someones pocket! :joint:

Yeppers! $0.50 a gram in PA... a dollars worth in a double ziplock bag would rat you out at 50 paces ROTFLMAO!

That was pretty good stuff.

You probably remember back before the internet when people spelled words properly too.

You know... simple stuff like Lose instead of Loose. A LOT instead of Alot.

Just dumb stuff like that.

I see more and more issues with people solely because they grew up never taking a moment to THINK about anything.

I am an ol stoner >40 y/o <--should I explain that? JK
Just think of them as little riddles and you will be fine.
We are teaching the kids this stuff not the other way around.

Middies (my slant) generally refers to commercial grown "mid"-grade weed.
Many who produce for profit will sacrafice top-shelf quality for low-odor high volume strains for cost vs. risk benefit. Seeds generally have nothing to do with it unless there are grow or strain issues.

We have evolved Schwagg to Schwack around here. Dont know why. <--Edit: Schwack is Schwagg-in-a-Sack-->

Dank seemed to come around when proper curing technique produced dry tissues with "sticky" glands. The smell between bricked tire-dried weed and properly cured weed is different. Smells...well Dank. Moist w/o Mold. Most of our Cali outdoor skunk was dank. Shit would stick to the walls but still burn clean and sweet.

BTW where did all that boat thai ever go? You guys remeber that perfumed shit that was everywhere for about 5 years?

Schwagg used to be Swag (Stuff We All Get) which was how we referred to lowly ol' dirt-weed you could always find when nothing decent was available.

Oh yeah, I rounded up all the old boat Thai (found it on Ebay listed as Hogwart Root).

G'day gents,
boy am I glad we don't have the same terminology used for weed down here,,, the only way I'm familiar with your dilemma is from reading the use of these terms on the net.

Its straight up basics here..... a 25er is a small jewelers bag,,, a nifty (50) is a slightly larger jewelers bag @ 1/4oz or less,,, a 1/2 oz is just that,,,, then the faithful elbow (1 lb).... a foil is a stick, but nothing like the old dipped Thai sticks.

A mid or middie is used to describe the size of a glass of beer in a pub. Bush weed is outdoor,,, but hydro is used exclusively for everything grown indoors, whether it be good shit or crap.

In the old days (lol , I swore I would never use that expression), a bag of weed was measured by how many fingers you'd hold up.

But as for those digital scales,, well I bet you a 4 finger bag (of dank, hehe) that there aren't any out there that have lasted the true test of time,,, my set of beams are as accurate as the day I bought them over 25 yrs ago,, I will gladly cough up if some one has a counter claim. :dueling:

We have an ongoing joke about how the British invented the English language, the Americans refined it & the Aussies fucked it up!
But in this case the USA wins hands down. :spank:

Hi All, I had been out of the scene for 20+ years so its been a kind of looking glass world for me! I mean last I knew you got a lid or an ounce and rarely a kilo. You got pretty much a four strain menu maui wowie, acapulco gold, the extremely rare and exotic thai stick but mostly you just got "weed". You'd get stems, seeds, leaves along with buds. Growing? There was always someone with one straggly plant in a gallon pot no one had a clue.

Oh yeah and it was always either good shit or just plain shit(G) That reminds me of an afternoon years ago when we decided Nixon should get a dog and name him Shit then the press could report things like The president was seen today playing with Shit......okay we were all pretty stoned that day.

We had a whole list of things President Nixon could do with Shit. Its funny the things you remember.

Ok, I'm gonna just ask. Laugh if you will.
What are these new terms(new to me anyway):
"mids" (I am guessing that means "ok quality"), but how does one determine that?

Dank(obvously that is "superior quality")---what is the criteria?

And "Schwag"...(meaning stems & seeds I guess) what I used to get all the time in highschool (a "LID" to be exact) and it worked for me then.

I don't buy anything from anyone. If I don't grow it myself(which I just did), well, I just get it from other "old timers"(good friends).

And it always gets me where I want to be.

I suppose I need to be enlightened. I'm just not groovey or hip anymore. :badday:
Thanks for the help. :joint:

It has been answered on the first page but here is my explanation with some different price quotes.

1. Schwag-aka, brick, regs (regular), mexi. This is the pot that comes compressed in bricks from south of the border. It has stems and seeds. This pot can range from good to bad to be perfectly honest, ask whomever you are buying from if it is good brick or bad. The sort of test I use is to break open a chunk and see if there are crystals inside. Price wise, you are looking at 80-120 an OZ. Closer to the border it is cheaper, having moved out east I have it seen go for 100-150.

2. Mids- As you said this is middle of the road weed. It is also where you will find the largest swings in quality. In an OZ you will find maybe 10-20 seeds or none at all. Your results may vary depending on how good of a relationship you have with your dealer as this pot can be really good for the price or simply be more cosmetically appealing than schwag but severly lacking in potency/smokeability. Beware of this stuff, sometimes it is great and can be my favorite range to buy in, but it can also really suck. OZ's usually run anywhere from 100-200, if it is really good it extend into the 250-300 range. When you hit the higher prices you should find no seeds and it should look and smell good, the only real distinction being that it does not have adequate trichrome coverage.

3. Beasters-aka bc bud. This stuff sucks. It looks good, until you have seen many bags of them it is hard to distinguish between this stuff and good pot. Look for overly dense buds that are visually appealing but with very few trichromes. These can be sort of lumped in with mids but are usually more expensive and the quality is much more questionable. I usually use a smell teat, if they smell good they are worth it but if they have the hay smell or no real smell at all stay away. Often they are sort of wet so you need to be wary of both mold and the fact that you are paying for water weight. In terms of price you are usually looking at somewhere between 200-300 an ounce. My advice is to pick up an 8th and if it is good and the price is right go ahead and buy more. Usually I get a headache of this crap.

4. Headies- aka AAA, good shit, nugs, dank, etc. Visit the growers forum to see examples. Depending on locale and connections this pot can range from mid quality to the best there is. Typically it you are looking at 50-60+ (east coast on the high end of the scale) per 8th or 400-500+ an ounce, I hear they are paying in the 600-700 range in nyc. Assuming you don't live in a major city this stuff is the way to go as it is really good and quality wise it usually makes up for the price with quality.

Life really was simpler in the days of $20 lids, back when all we had was dirt weed (usually poorly processed Mexican that could be had for less than $100/lb) and killer shit (typically Colombian.) It either got you stoned or gave you a headache. Then we began seeing Jamaican, Hawaiian, Acapulco that grew into the smorgasbord we enjoy today. Would love to find some old school Oaxaca to grow in my garden today.

the terms used in pot sales have always been stupid, Im just starting to figure out the new lingo.

I've also heard kids call pot "dro", meaning extra good pot that they assume was grown hydroponically. :)

Schwag is the strains I've grown with lower potency or taste. Commercial weed, the kind that comes from the south is called "Shit" and will never smoke it. In fact when we've run out between harvests we smoke nothing at all.
