Rent a place to dry????

A pop up in a very secluded campground more likely private would be ok I'm thinking. They usually have heaters and don’t need electric to run them. A battery-operated fan is available also. Could work but needs to be very private.

I have been to the type of secluded campgrounds you are talking about. The type where you throw in $5 at a drop box no one actually taking money or checking you in. The idea has its merits.

You got me thinking that no matter where I dry you are right I need a filter of some kind. One of my ideas was to build a drying cabinet in something I rent and use the stacked screen method you mentioned. It’s the right way to do it I just need to find the right place. Need electricity for fan and some type of ventilation.

Starts cutting down your options very fast and keeping in mind with the fan comes noise and those storage places do not expect any noise coming from them not to mention not all are heated. They are out completely because drying and trimming go hand in hand in my mind. Why have a separate dry and trimming area doesn’t make sense. The place has to accommodate both.

I haven’t really put the effort into looking yet because I am in the planting mode for next few weeks but this will all help in the end. Info much appreciated.

I have made up my mind nothing comes to my house no matter what. The family has to come first and although I am already breaking that rule by growing at all bringing my work home with me is a line I will not cross. I hope that can be appreciated and respected.

Ok, I am not going to post everything has i do it exactly but I am in the same boat as you and have a way to do it. I germ outside in cold frames, transplant outside, grow outside. Nothing comes into my home for any reason. And not having enough confidence in an outdoor dry I had to figure something out. here it is:

1. You need to find a mini shop space for rent. Theres a company near me that runs alot of storage units and along with those they rent out small spaces for people to use as offices for home businesses, garages, storage, wine storage etc. Find one of these and rent one, I pay less than 300 a month plus the electricity bill for a 8x10ft space. 24hr access, secure location, no reason for anyone to be suspicious of noises coming from the unit. Leases are usually 3, 6, 9, or 12 months, but alot of places will do month to month.

2. Get some old freezers or fridges off of craigslist. Rig up some fans out of sight on the back, filtered into carbon. Hang your harvest inside to dry. Padlock on the outside.

3. have a story for why you need the space, no ones going to be suspicious, but the leasing agent is going to try and make small talk with you during the signing and it would be good to have a legit story for him.

Pretty quick overview but you will be able to figure it out. Hope it helps.

what about drying underground? Or just burying it in some type of protective thing? I know that may take a lot of time, but its free.

Whats the humidity like? temps?
You could even make like a small vent system to change out air with the breeze.

I'm just concerned about temp/humidity/bugs/fungus.
The temp should be stable right? underground its usually low 70's

The humidity should be stable, but at what?

The containment vessel can protect against most bugs/fungus i think, but the venting will open it up to some..

good thread, good suggestions, and very important topics for some of us. i've been pondering this same issue for my own situation, so, as long as we're brainstorming...:joint:...here's what i've been thinking: a small, cheap, easy to transport/set up box enclosure of some kind that would accomodate bud from, say, one to three plants, depending on the size, that could be placed in the woods away from your property. you could use screens or just hang buds/branches inside, but each box would contain some kind of dessicant that would keep the relative humidity low enough for a safe dry. i remember reading a thead by someone here about a trash can setup that used dessicant, so this would just be a scaled down version. basically, you'd need several of these for moderate sized harvest, and you'd probably want to be able to check on them every couple of days, so you wouldn't want them WAY out there in the woods, but it seems to me they could be camoed or concealed pretty easily. i've never made one or used one, so i probably wouldn't commit my whole harvest to it, but it's something i think i might try. at any rate, it definately seems like an option to explore, seeing as the goals you (and many of us) are working toward involve an operation with as little risk and contact with our homes/properties as possible.

Thanks for the input. In my experience if we are talking 3 plants, which if outdoors could reasonably expect ½ lb, each so 1-1/2 lbs is something that can be dried outside with a little planning. Just a trap set up to deflect any rain or dew should do it. It’s when you start pulling a single harvest of 5 lbs that’s when it’s a tough call.

Underground is a very viable option. Much like a tent underground if you think about it. So to get away from moisture problems you could use a propane heater like many do to dry in a tent. Being underground makes it very stealth but the up front work seams daunting to me. I am no stranger to hard work most guerillas aren’t but this seams like a 1-year project digging a 6x6x5 foot hole in the earth with a shovel. You start putting real numbers down on paper and it will be a tough nut to crack. I think its very doable but I would like to research other ideas first.

I have never heard of these mini spaces before and am very interested. Can you tell me more about the “Mini Space” itself?? I am wondering if I have them in my area. 40 posts not sure you can PM yet but would that be an option for further discussion?

I'd go for the RV with a carbon scrubber venting out of the top of the RV's existing vents. An apartment or house rental would be nice, but then your stuck with a lease. To bad you can have some kind of bunker in the ground that stays dry.

vacation house on a lake for a week sounds best bet.a/c in pop top camper would be good too.renting an rv with a/c and a almost empty campground works good cus most campgrounds have electric hook ups.a/c keeps humidity down

Hey hamstring!
Maybe you should dry it with calcium corbonate (something like this). It is chemical substance that suck all humidity around it. If you buy alot of this shit, you can dry your weed in closed box, wherever you want :)

LITTLE J IDEA sounds best to me and if your producing 5 lbs a cycle you probably hv lots of "vacation"lol

Yeah.

I likes Little J's idea, his first one about the vacation rental..

Get a hunting cabbin in the area..Or some week by week cabin rental in the area..

..............................

In my situation, im forced to drive 2 hours on the highway back to town with ~6, 32gal rubbermaids packed. Last year I did this every morning for almost a month..

Huge security risk, and must not happen this year.

yeah, Ill probably do the rental in the mountains..

...

I get the feeling youre goin hard this summer hamstring. Hope alls well brotha!

Thanks for stopping in. Hate to say it but its great to hear a real guerrilla like yourself has to work around these problems too. I hope you still have the time to throw out a few pics this season.

I am still working on a place to dry. I have a friend (knows nothing about me growing) that has a quite a few rentals in less than desirable neighborhoods I am still working that angle but its hard to come up with a believable story.

Id say make a gigantic underground drying area, with racks, like 10feet down to the ceiling total ownage.jpg click to enlarge..

im glad im not the only one thinkin about doing something like this when all will be said and done with this outdoor season im expecting a very sizeable harvest and ive bin talkin to my grow partner about renting as well .... the only thing is he brought up a very good point if you rent week by week expect to be there for 2 weeks you need to bring in your harvest ,trim, dry, pakage, and the biggest job yet clean up,revove smell(better safe then sorry ) a day or two to air is good and make sure you dont leave behind anything like i said better safe then sorry plus your nug might take a couple extra days to ddry

Your idea is very viable option FrozenGuy brought it up a little before you in this thread. I have seen pics of people doing it but the amount of work is daunting. Digging a hole like that would take mucho time. In the fall it would still be very humid but I suppose a propane heater could help but can you imagine the water vapor rolling out of that thing every morning. Would have to be a secure place.

The pics I have seen were done in arid regions but still a viable option.

I am thinking more like 2.5 months at least. I don’t plant strains that finish exactly at the same time I try and hedge my bets. I need to start Sept 1st and finish beginning of Nov.

You are right it takes time to trim, dry and bag a load of weed. It’s a real dilemma but others must have struggled through it also so hopping to keep thread going to help out and get info.

Sup! good brainpower goin' on! lol If you use the "same" grow spot you should get da diggin'!! It will pay off in the long run. 1st Rent an auger to loosen up the soil and then its just a matter of movin' it out. Do it about 4 x 8; depth is dependent on lengths you will have. Propane stove and 12v fans will do it.
I had a set-up like this but the grow spot was compromised by others growers. Now I camo up a tent and camp-out, lol.(different location too!) Get hunting gear and a "license" if you do this. Now who is goin' to visit inside your tent? Nahbody!

Guerrilla Water cure

Guerrilla Water cure

What you need:

One cooler to water cure your bud plants

One knife to poke holes in the cooler for water flow in the cooler

A few rocks to weigh down your cooler

One Lake/Stream with good water

Your crop.

Put that shit on the bottom of a lake and let it water cure naturally!

:D lol i'm baked as hell don't do that

Nice to hear from someone who has done this before. So the tent has the bottom cut out or I am missing something?

Midwest says to me...DEERCAMP. Lots of people will lease / rent large tracts for deer season but dont want people year round. Leasers post their property and hunting ettiqute keeps others out. Relativly cheap, private, absentee landlords (generally). You have a reason to be there , no one else.
Beg borrow or steal some tents from friends. $49 for 7'x7' onsale . Fabric store sale screeny type mesh (cheap) fibreglass door screen (less cheap) 50' box 12 ga. romex wire and a hot glue gun. I think fabric is in 50" rolls so figure each drying screen will be about 15-15 1/2 " . Cut 3 wire to 60 Or so " , strip outer insulation, bend into 15" squares . Cut and glue fabric to frame and loop with string to make a stack as high as tents . Repeat.

Still risky to a degree, but what isnt? You belong there, nobody else, owner gets taxes paid, hes happy. Posted property keeps out casual wanderers. I'll assume you have 4-w drive cuz you'll be deercamp boonies.

Not perfect but hiding in plain sight of nobody is a good close second. And cheap too.

Dont forget the fire ring. Smart hunters dont wander on others property in deer season.
