hey everyone i have built a room in my garage 7'5" x 5' x 7'1" high.... i am trying to decide wether i should use a ebb and flow tray like a 4x4 with my 1000 or maybe do like 3 utility boxes and do a dwc type grow.... any advice for what you might do would be helpful thanks...

It depends...Is your hood air cooled? Hoods are all different. It will only cover a specific area unless it's adjustable. A 4x4 area is as large as you should go unless you can get the bulb really close and use a rail. Are you using Co2? That will make a difference also.

A honkin assed grow lamp does not a grower make.

BUT it's a hella start.

The tools you have available will determine which method may be better.

for Hydro apps - and soil too, a pH tester is gona make things easier to get running.

For hydro a EC/TDS meter will be another "tool of the trade"

Add a couple fans - a few thermometers and -- oh yeahhhh some seeds!

You also need to pick a method and a medium - (something to hold the roots)

I just started some plants in rockwool cubes and a flood and drain set-up, which everybody says won't work,,,, let me get a link to the thread - your welcome to read along. I will say I started 38 plants and still have 38 growing 2 weeks later. (A new record for survival of seedlings for me)

Your options are endless. I use a modified waterfarm setup. It is a hybrid DWC and drip system. Othere swear by bubble buckets (DWC), or aeroponics (sprayers), or ebb & flow, or ???. Each will tell you that there way is the best (why else would they be doiig it that way).

All of the soil people will tell you that they have it dialed in.

Each method has advantages and disadvantages. I hate to be so vague, but you can see there are many options. There are great tutorials (yes, including mine ) available by seaching.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

You and your damn rules. Next you'll tell him he needs water. Where does the madness end?

Reyes, I say the biggest consideration is one that's rarely discussed and that's grower personality. The more you love your garden, the better care you'll take of it and the better it will take care of you. Between E&F and DWC (or any other method) which appeals to you more? Some people feel the need to hand water soil everyday. Who cares why. It's their grow and they should be happy. I was happy with E&F for years ... until I discovered root porn. Now I'm very happy. If neither is more appealing, choose the one that's less scary.

As much as I love DWC I'm tempted to recommend E&F. With DWC under a 1K, you'll want multiple buckets which means multiple reservoirs or lots of plumbing. E&F could be one big tub over a res with 2 lines. One combination feed/drain line (Pump on, it feeds. Pump off it drains.) One raised, dedicated, oversized drain. Done.

Alright So i got my room setup and my 4x4 ebb and flow tray and have a few kinda newb questions.....
1. How much water do i need in the tray for 6 inch net pots with hydroton and clones in rockwool? (Like water to the bottom of rockwool?)
2. What temp should my room and water be at?
3. How deep in the hydroton do i plant the clones?

Any help is much appreciated... ps. i also got flora nova nutes to tryout my first time... and my pump is 250gph and my resivor seems awfully full.... umm ill have pics soon waiting for camera tray is 7" deep the General Hyrdo one
