Lola's Little Off the Grid Green Cabin & Greenhouse

Because of the doors and kitchen cabinets they used I want to say it was around 130-140 a sqft. This was in 2003. It was a really nice cabin. Hell it was a home just in the woods. They put shakers doors in made of knotty pine. They where sharp but $$$. Man I hope I have those plans. Now that I opened my mouth LOL . I still remember the layout.Roof pitch was 12/12 with a shed roof bump out for the loft. The Wall of glass had like 3 9'patio doors that opened on to a 30x30 deck. I remember I buildt this in the middle of winter. When we where setting the trusses, That we had to asemble to get them to the job, it was like -20f out everything kept freezing up.

Asil, that sounds pretty close to what I envision. I would not like to build another house without blue prints. It is not a good idea... :D

I ain't too crazy about the 12/12 pitch, and I don't really need a loft for anything but maybe storage or something. But I would love to see the plans, they might be just about right!

I'd like to dig a normal basement with 8 foot ceilings and all. However, it would be nice to have a sub basement and then a level for parking above the ground with the house on top.

The extra height gained would be great for the views and the lot.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions everybody!

I got a neighbor who "doesn't really want" 2 log cabins he has numbered in his yard. These are original cabins from 1760 or so. I think the logs are chestnut.

I may talk him out of them yet... they would make lovely outbuildings! They are 12 x 14 feet and there are 2, so they could be put back together and a turkey trot between the two. That might be good for my genny buildings, etc. Or might make a lovely siding???

Thanks again for the help and ideas ya'll, keep em coming, we will decide on a floor plan soon.... :D

Poor people gotta scrounge for materials... :D

I don't want no modular home, first I'll get the basement and foundation and then the house. I can rough it for a while at the house I'm in now with electricity and all.

I just like the view better from the back of the farm on the hill I showed... More peaceful and quiet, further from the road.

Hope to beg, borrow and steal the materials as much as possible. I know where some nice rocks are :D

I would love to just throw some money around and buy, but I am broke and will have to do it the old fashioned way.... barter :D

Anybody wanna buy a Pawpaw tree ? :D

Too bad I can't raise money selling chances or something, but I got nothing good to raffle off... haha. Maybe a treasure map or something... haha

Hey lola.. Check into solar hot water heaters, can save you a fortune.. also try to use the sun as much as possible.. Passive heating/cooling methods in your home (like where the windows are facing) can save you money as well. Think greenhouses and earthboxes for your grow requirements.. rain water catchment is nice, and if there is a local stream or river, look into hydro-electric.. and if all else fails, I heard Russia is on to something called "cold fusion"

I live with two guys majoring in construction management.

what's your budget?

I got the beg, borrow, or steal budget going on... :D

Consider me Scarlett O'Hara in a garden after the Yankees have come

"I'll never be homeless again, Not if I have to lie, cheat, steal, I swear, I'll never be homeless again"

Watch out Yankees! Haha. j/k

400,000 is my top limit. If I go over that I'm gonna be in trouble....hahaha

Tony, we've had this discussion before....I'm BROKE! No job! No money! No prospects!

I'm gonna have to scrounge every board, every nail, every window...

It'll be allright! You can get by without money OK. :D

Oh, and I got my eye on this gold prospecting tip.... anybody wanna buy a map? heehee

I was thinking of getting a job as a roller derby star to pay for things.... Anybody ever figure out how that game works yet...??? lol

I put in a chance to win the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes, and I just KNOW that will pay off...

I may have to sell the stolen art from that museum....

I've heard there's big money in bull semen... There's some cows in a neighbor's field...

Speaking of cows... if one follows you home, is it OK to eat it? :D

wow lola its like you are reading my mind, right down to the riverrock fireplace. floor to ceiling of coarse. ;).

But of course, that is how the fireplace should be! In the winter here, it hardly ever gets below freezing! Maybe a week or two all winter in total! Of course it is cold all winter, but 30s and 40s mostly.

Please help with blueprints if possible :) Thanks Ya'll.

Hope nobody is discouraged by my lack of funding! I will persevere!

Anybody got any good plans? Then my next goal is the foundation. This build can take as long as needed, since I have a house already :D
