Bean Shopping...Fem? or Regular?

So I'm in the process in acquiring some seeds from one of the many popular seed breeders. My main concern/question is whether I should buy Feminised or Regular seeds. What are the main differences and is one more suited for a type of grower or not?

I dont have alot of space. I'm leaning towards going Fem. I kinda dont want to bother culling out males and such...any advice is welcome.

I hope to keep this thread going up until I buy my beans.

Some of my BB Blue Cheese fem's hermied on me during week 6 and 7 of flower. I think culling out the males is worth the time to find one nice female.

Regular everytime. You find a kepper male and female you will have meds for a very long time.

personally I think for micro growers who dont plan to breed fem'd is the way to go. I know many would disagree but if your growing 3-4 plants in your closet with cfl's or a 150hps. It takes the hassle outta sexing them and possibly getting all males if your only doing a few plants.i've been growing fem'd seeds for a few years now and have never had a hermie even with the ghs beans i got

i've bought 2 fem'd seeds in the past, both from rez... basic kush 6 for 6 'males' , abusive kush 4 for 4 'females'

Rez does not make alot of Fem seeds but he does do it now and then. Last I herd from him he did not have any FEM seeds available.

Go with the fems dude. Do research and go with fems from breeders that have reliable fem seeds. Read grow reports from people who have grown out the same fems.

The people telling you to get regular seeds are missing the whole fucking point. No, you can't just grow out a few male and female plants and start making your own seeds and be set for life or taking a shitload of clones if somebody happens to be a micro grower without a lot of space in the first place.

And if you are running your grow in a small space, why waste the pots, soil, nutes and your time on growing out males and never being sure about how many females you are eventually going to end up with?

If you're looking to just grow out a few different plants and end up with some decent smoke and not hassle with males, then go with the fems. If you are looking to be a breeder and compete in next years cannabis cup, and if you are looking to grow out 15 plants to find that one special keeper and all of that bullshit, then go with regular seeds.

I don't need 15 plants to make me some fantastic seeds. That statement is way out of proportion. I'm not a breeder and I love making my own cross. I get 10 to 30 seeds from ea pollination and I only keep 1 mom sometime 2. You need to be more realistic most of the people that do this are not on a commercial scale. we all do small #'s and yes you can grew a few males and females and have smoke for a very long time. I DONT KNOW HOW YOU DO IT but that's haw we do it. and we are all very happy with our results.

AND THERE IS ALWAYS A POSSABILITY OF HERMIES NO MATER WHERE YOU GET FEM SEEDS FROM.

I have used fem beans 6 times, latest was with Godbud from BCBudDepot and 5 or 5 turned hermi with a lot of seeds. Crop was heavy and potent but it did turn. I did the same with Duth Passion Blueberry fem seeds 5 yrs ago and 3 of 10 were hermis. I only use reputable seedbanks and pay the extra for better than average results. It is a crap shoot if you haven't grown the variety before. Environmental factors can trigger the hermi condition, ie. greater sensitivity to heat and ph balancing during veg stages. So consider all. I use them sometimes and will in the future. Ask if you have questions, these guys have a lot of useful information.

Not everybody can keep "keepers" or mother plants, some people run each grow as a one off deal. Everybody's grow situation is different.

That's true with standard seeds also.

There is still a search with fems, I can see how fems suggest an easier route....but I'd rather modify my plans.

Well theres been alot of good info. thanks everyone. It seems like the general opinion is that Fems do work but the chances of them being a hassle on you are greater than when using Regular seeds. Either way like some people have already said that theres always a possibility of hermies.

And damn getting hermies from Rez fem seeds that sucks...but I guess its a good example from someone who does work and still hermies come out. As of right now im leaning towards going with Regular seeds.

What the general rule regarding sexing? How old from seed does it have to be for one to take a clone and sex it?

I dont agree. out of all my grows I have only experienced Hermies from fem seeds. I have never got one from a regular pack of anything even some strains that I was told tend to hermie never got one.
I must be special lol. Also the lickly hood of getting a hermie from a regular pack is way less then a Fem pack. If you want fem seeds I wont buy anymore you can have them as I dot need them.
