hmmm okay just when i thought i had it all figured out. are you saying this from experience (you have run both setups)? you stacking the 110CFM pc fans? Were they 120mm? A lot of other people are talking about S&P and Panasonic Whisper series for stealth but maybe im on the wrong track. Can you give an example of how loud it is? Could it be muffled with insulation? Did you have a lot of attached ducting?

thanks

Its hard to give an accurate description of sound, but the sound of air rushing from the S&P 100 is loud, as in with no muffler/insulated ducting as I dont have the head room for that stuff a fish tank air pump will not mask it. I have my S&P 100 sitting in its original box underneath my computer desk because of this reason. When I get to go back to my old dresser with more room I might be able to rig it to be quite quiet, but silent, no way.

I run one 110CFM computer fan right now, pushing through about 3/4 of an inch of small grain activated carbon with a filterete brand 1250 prefilter. That thick layer of carbon restricts airflow by probably over 50%, but pushing through it it acts as its own muffler and still exhausts my small space 4+ times per minute. I could only imagine that two 110CFM computer fans would still not be as loud as my S&P 100.

Hope that helps some. I know how confusing ventilation options are, and IMO it is the number 1 most important thing for a quality grow. Bottom line is that the level of stealth required in your own unique situation is the determining factor in what type of setup you can run.

hmm work2much that very interesting to push through it instead of pull to muffle the sound. I would really like to try this. Unfortunately its going to be a right bitch for me to redesign my scrubber for this. Is it the same airflow achieved as the fans on the outside - sorry i know we cant be exact here. We just have to stick our hand there and feel the air and also the cooling effect on the bulbs give us an indication of the airflow but i know we cant really measue it.

Id like to be sure before making any major modifications

An unmuffled 80 CFM Panasonic Whisperline fan is about on par with the sound coming from a vent when a central air conditioner is turned on. No noise from the fan itself can be discerned; it is the rushing air that is so noisy.

Yea I have seen the noctuas. I'm a bit skeptical... I'm a pretty big computer enthusiast and have built a lot of high end PCs. The latest few being watercooled (radiator with 120mm fans) for silence. I feel that in that niche there is a lot of shit to sift thru to get real hard facts about products like this. That being said, a lot of the review sites I go to for good information have seemed to get behind this product and I think I might order up 2 of these to put in series.

Here is a summary of the technical background for the P12;

Also the two links at the bottom of the page are good to.

It's designed by a collage with a special department for Airflow and Sound from Austria. I can't find the name but my collage send students there (that's why I remembered this) so it can't be "fake" or a some idiots that don't know what their doing. I hope :p

EDIT: The fans are solid doh, I love them!

You know I dont really know. I ordered my 110CFM PC fan specifcally for my small cab and I've never tried pulling with it so I cant really help you on that one. The thickness of the carbon layer I use really slows down the flow of air, but instead of making my scrubber wider and taller to have more contact area I just made the carbon thicker for the same effect so it works pretty well. I also made the scrubber box with MDF screwed together so it only takes a few minutes to unscrew, pop the screen on one side, and refill with some new carbon.
