Hi All, need someones advice ASAP....Yesterday one plant decided to droop, and i mean really droop...today all 6 plants have drooped...I turned the water off for 3 hours, then checked them again..even worse...so turned the flow back on and made it pump a little faster...3 hours later...exactly the same...I`ve jacked up one end of the tank to make it drain quicker..Using a GT400 hydro NFT tank with 6 plants on it...Am i under or over watering? Ph was down to 4.7 day before yesterday and i adjusted it accordingly..Do i need to flush with 5.5 balanced water for an hour? Have i got nutrient lockout? Until yesterday all seemed great.

Have flushed for 2 hours this morning, and added fresh nutes, half strength...Using canna flores. Ph back to a steady 5.5 EC 0.8

How often are you feeding? (If using soiless) NFT
How often are you giving nutrients? (If using soiless) constantly
If flowering, when did you switch over to using Bloom nutrients? Was due to do it this week

What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include flucutaion range) around 20/22 degrees night
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.) 2 fans, 1 x 8" and 1 x 10" running during lights on with a 1 x 10" extraction fan
Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ?
Is the fan blowing directly at plants? No
Is your water HARD or SOFT? Soft
What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water? Tap
Are you using water from a water softener? No
Has plant been recently pruned, cloned off of or pinched 2 weeks ago
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so, What and When? I run a sulphume hotbox every night for 2 hours to deter mites and mold..Been running this for 18 months with no problems before.
Are plant's infected with pest's No

Thanks in advance for any good advice.

nice grow on the last pic... I think the drooping maybe caused by no O2 to the roots.. not sure though because it's hydroponics. i only do soil lol

I dont grow hydroponically but you could...

Check your oxygen in the water/medium...

Check heat in the room.... Make sure its not too hot..

Hi Mr Hades, room temp is 28deg and water is oxygenated ok..I use an airstone in the middle of the nute tank and a small stone next to the feed pump.

Thanks

Why do people who don't grow using a certain method feel the need to try and field questions concerning said method?

definitely dont let them go without water, all that will do is stunt the growth, and add more flowering time before finish

btw plants recover from too much water and not enough o2 pretty quickly, but water deprived plants take longer and sometimes retain the drooped over look on the old leaves until they fall off

add more air, check you airstones and pump too
i bet its got to do with not enough air

also check the roots, you might have some fungal growth on them...

Looks a lot like lack of oxygen to me too.

25C is 77F

Your Nutrient temperature is too hot and it can't hold oxygen that well. Your plants are also at a critical point for needing a lot of oxygen through their roots.
Double whammy. Keep your Nutrients at about 69F or 20.5C and you'll see a big difference.

You can either increase the amount of air bubbling or start doing the frozen pop-bottle shuffle in the res to keep it cool. You can also do both.

Once you drop the res temp, your plants will look a whole lot better.

back the light off, being your water temps down.

Check your rockwool for signs of pythium. I've had bad experiences using rockwool in NFT, cause it stays too wet.

Hi guys, thanks for all the suggestions, thing is.. pic 3 was also taken this morning, exactly the same system, 3 ft from the droopers.. and all fine, also got an exact same system in my veggin room too....Never had a problem before, maybe i`m gonna have to check the rootzone and see if theres any identifiable problem. But on first glance, all seemed good. I`ll go and put some pop bottles in the freezer, see if it helps....really don`t wanna loose these ladies...gonna put me behind weeks... :wallbash:

Hi again, just been and checked nute temps, both tanks at 25.1 deg C....added some ice cubes and some cool box ice blocks...will check ph again in the morning..Not looking good though...think i`m just gonna have to bite the bullet and chop em down.. :(

dont chop em down, just add some airstones to the nft channel and get those plants back to healthy

THEN run your normal setup

dont bail out just yet

i grow hyro and have seen this on too many different occassions and found the problem to be not frequent enough feedings if possible move to net pots and grow rokcks hope this info is helpful hopefully their not poisioned or infected

thats the same strain ive been running get a fan check theicecream journal too but it looks like their hot and over fertilized however i run eb and flo this is a very good hassel free plant also spray 1/8 tsp of epomsalt in spray bottle of warmwater and begin misting this should green the plant trust me this is my only strain ive ever worked

When you say to the nft channel, do u mean in the nute tank,or actually in the channel?? As the flow is probably only a mm deep.

Thanks

When you say Fan you mean to blow air over the root mat?

Hi DI, the roots look fine m8...first thing i checked...a little brown from the nutes but solid enough with no slime, breakage.

Thanks

bro, you say the roots are healthy, but that is DEFINATELY a root problem. Maybe not pythium or whatnot though. I have had a couple experiences which that shit happened to me.

One time, I had these huge krusty style trees. roots were healthy, everything was fine, then BAMM!!! Out of the friggin blue, one of them just up and does that shit. Within 3 days it was toast. Never figured it out.

More recently, I was running an NFT system, which I accidentally plugged 2 dehuey's into the same circuit as the water pump, then left for 2 days, running CO2 with 85+ temps. You can imagine how they looked when I got back...just like yours. Roots looked healthy after a few hours with some water, but while they looked good, most of them shriveled up after days. The plants actually recovered from that, but I was scared shitless of total crop failure for a few days.

I said prior to pull back the light(s) because high light is for fast growing plants. Something is obviously wrong, and you can give yourself more time to figure out the problem by pulling the lights way up.

So anyways, is there a chance there was some event that triggered this? Pump failure? Power outage? Temps shot up? I'm guessing not or you would ave mentioned it, but figured I would double check..

There is NO WAY that is a nute issue, sorry guys...

Is this the first time you have ran this strain?

And dig into your rockwool blocks to check for rot. This is where it would be. I won't even use rockwool to root cuts in if they are going into an nft system, let alone 4" cubes. They wick water up and it gets stagnant, since it is out of the NFT flow.

If it turns out you have rot in the cubes, next time start them out in rapid rooters, transplant to 3-4" netpots with hydroton in an aero system, then once the roots get shaggy, transfer them into the NFT. NFT is an amazingly productive yet simple system, but like other methods, it has it's unique quirks.
