We've got a bunch of commercial-free national radio stations, and pirate radio stations in every urban area playing the music you don't get to hear on the mainstream dials..

Yeah, FM radio is terrible outside a few major cities. Even then, some lack anything worth listening to.

I used to help run a pirate station (technical and on-air) in my hometown... those were some good times....

The local college station played my band's demo, but until 11pm that station blows anyway. The radius is like 3 miles away from the college, but when the planets align and I'm in the area around 11 they play some SICK ass tunes.

Since the same people essentially own most of the shit you'll hear on FM radio, you're pretty much stuck with what you have.
