Memorial Day

The "Memorial" in Memorial Day has been ignored by too many of us who are beneficiaries of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Often we do not observe the day as it should be, a day where we actively remember our ancestors, our family members, our loved ones, our neighbors, and our friends who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
ways observe:

by visiting cemeteries and placing flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes.

by visiting memorials.

by flying the U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon.

by flying the 'POW/MIA Flag'

by participating in a "National Moment of Remembrance": at 3 p.m. to pause and think upon the true meaning of the day, and for Taps to be played.

by renewing a pledge to aid the widows, widowers, and orphans of our falled dead, and to aid the disabled veterans.
Also, please consider adding your voice in support of the efforts to restore the traditional day of observance of Memorial Day back to May 30th (instead of "the last Monday in May"). This would help greatly to return the solemn meaning back to the day, and to help return minds and hearts to think upon the ultimate sacrifices made by those in service to our country. Just one day out of the year to honor our loved ones, our ancestors, our friends who died in conflicts and wars -- not to honor war, but those that died in those conflicts and wars

I'm glad there is somebody out there who remembers the true meaning of the holiday not just a time to go to a BBQ or the beach.

Memorial Day falls on my Birthday this year! A true time to celebrate life and remember the past year. A time of thanksgiving for all the freedom that I so much enjoy...a huge, huge big up to all that have given up everything so we can live in peace and happiness.

My children and I light a candle everyday to remember everyone elses birthday that day and take a moment to celebrate just being alive. That one moment everyday helps us to remember what is truly important and bonds the three of us together. All the little things just melt away and it is just us for that moment... we stop everything and just breathe.
Every second of every minute is a gift. May the peace I share with my children each day be passed to each of you through this vast and flowing universe! Cheers!

remember what its about.....

remember what its about.....

heres a thread for those who know what memorial day is about. it is not about partying and getting drunk and going to the river. its about remembering the men and women who have given thier lives for our country. its about the men and women who served, lived through it, and have passed on since. its about honoring those who served thier country regardless of thier political beliefs, they served thier country, not thier government. there are those of us that will never forget the sacrifices others have made for us all. thank you. thank you. thank you. in my family, there is quite a list, but closest to me were my grandfathers, my father, my friends and brothers in arms K.L.D. and R.E.D. you made me proud, i miss you and i love you!:joint:

They definitely made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

They will always be remembered by me, and have a place in my heart.

It's so sad to see the government throw away these people's lives at the drop of the dime...the ONLY war i could see SOME justification in (in recent history) is WW2. All the others...yeah, not so much. Bush: We will go to war as a LAST resort. UN/Public: Let's try to talk about this guys... Bush: God damn terrorists, blow der shit up!

Maybe one day all governments will realize war is pointless, and we should all try to get along.

My father fought, my grandfather fought, I didn't have to because of them.

that top pic is on the carrier..
the bottom right is when they are crossing the equator, and they have a ceremony on the boat and become "shell -backs"..
I'm not sure if the lower left pic is in is Japan or not.

My grandfather is 96 and can still remember very clearly the day his boat was sunk in WW2. He was Army infantry and they were getting transfered. out of something like 1700 people, 400 survived. He said it was the sharks that got most of the men overboard. :fsu:
