So I just signed for my new house today, and after we finished at the notary, we went out fer a wee coffee with the seller.

During said coffee the lady (it was a couple) casually mentions that she saw some mushrooms growing in the back today that she never saw in the 5 years they lived there.

Being a mushroom fiend I ran over after our coffee to the new house to check out der mushrooms.......

And dis is wot I found:

I have been trying to cultivate these fuckers outside for almost 20 years, with no success.......and on the day I sign for my new house, I find more than I have ever picked put together in my whole life in my new backyard......

Morels for the WIN!

Lucky bastard! I hear you on the cultivation thing. You could make some serious bank if you pulled that off. People actually have done it. Indoors even! It's a well kept secret..

Nice haul! Morels, that variety, are without a doubt my favorite gourmet shrooms. I only found a few this year. Even the 'pro' hunters said this year sucked around here.

props for the purchase of the house and congrats on the find.

With the excitement in the title, I thought maybe you found Jimmy Hoffa.

Nice find Genkisan, should make for a very tasty meal!
Congratulations on your new home too btw, hopefully the Morels are an omen of much continued prosperity in your new digs!!

That is what I like about Americans and Canadians...they can find their own mushrooms. If you were French, you would have to train a pig to do that for you!

Naah they are no good for now. You can probably get some spawn going with them but as far as i know even the mycophiliacs in Shroomery haven't got em to fruit. I've seen pics of some elite mycologist (i suppose) growing them indoors. Morels are some of the most expensive mushrooms out there. If you could cultivate those you would definatley get all the respect in the world from shroom fans..

I have done outdoor spawn inoculation of morel a number of times, in many different settings, over the last 15-18 years...all with ZERO success.

One definite factor in them coming up on my lawn and not my neighbors is that my house has been unoccupied since November, and thus nothing has been mowed at alll, making for ground cover and pockets of good low shade.

I collect the spores (just keep the rinse water you wash them in), germinate parts of my garden that resemble where I found the first morels. This is called spore mass inoculation, and while it is very hit and miss as far as success goes, it is free every time you find good mushrooms.

Just for the record...morels do not get you high.

They are just simply the tastiest and most in demand mushroom in the world after truffles.
