Haha very true Chamba, others call it the $650 lazy fee. I dunno, but I'd rather make one and save the half grand for other, greener things.

I think the price is obscene too, so if ya’ll are serious about putting one together, take a look at Grainger’s 120VAC Shaded pole Parallel shaft gear motors at about the right RPM for an 8” drum.

3M-100 @ 25 rpm
3M-101 @ 35 rpm

I am old and retired, as is my catalog, but they were about $38 USD a pop in 2006. The key is of course a shaded pole parallel shaft gear motor at around 25 to 35 rpm.

Here is a quote I got from China for a 12VDC 30 rpm motor that I spotted on one of those spendy rich man’s units made out of a rubber maid tub.

Please see attached drawing for RB350200-00501R ( please note the
Code is RB350200-00501R R = RoHs type ) .

I get the 120 micron stainless mesh for about $6.50 a square foot locally, but it is readily available on line.

Make sure you keep your lines, threads, and micron openings straight. If you are on this side of the pond, divide inches by .00003937 to get microns.

(One inch/millimeter) minus (the thread count per inch/millimeter (X) times thread diameter), divided (by one less opening than the thread count), will give you the size of the individual openings.

As you note, the rest is mostly just plywood, all thread and fasteners.

Have fun!

That is my own on line source as well. I tried to stir up enough local interest to spring for an order of meshes ranging from 120 micron to 30 micron for permanent kief and hash sieves, but wasn't able, so I just paid about two dollars a square foot more and got the 120 mesh locally at $6.50/sq/ft.

If you are stuck I can check with my dealer and see if he does out of town business. His roll is 48" wide, so what ever you take, you need to take a full width cut.

As you will note an 8" drum takes 25.13" without overlap, so a tumbler would need to be slightly under 8" (~7.50) to get two off of one cut widthwise, or one tumbler and some shake boxes.

The only place I could find it online ( http://www.twpinc.com/twpinc/control/home ) has a minimum 75$ order, anyone know of another cheaper source? Thanks!

I've been loooking for a place to order enough SS Screen to make a tumble and a spare framed screen or two so if anyone has a direction to point me in that'd be great.

Yeah that's like $700 usd, that's a weeks pay for most people. That is rediculous

I agree that he price is absurd, but, thankfully, I didn't pay for it. A friend of one of my relatives moved to Canada and gave it to her before he left. I have about 35 grams of resin sitting around from that thing. Enough to put my son to sleep for several nights.

That's beauty we weren't knockin ya I just thought it was crazy priced.

I forget how to calculate the micron size using the Mesh # and wire diameter. Does anyone remember?

one micron = .000039 inches

1 minus (thread count X thread diameter) divided (by thread count minus 1) = opening size.

Thanks Gray is the mesh number the same as the thread count? The site I'm looking at dosn't list thread count.

the price of the pollinator is high....but ..

on a second look at it today, there's more to putting one of these together than simply just getting a plastic container, fitting a motor, wiring it up, producing a mesh cylinder etc.....I'd say a hefty part of the cost is in fabricating the custom made parts and fittings that you can't just buy off the shelf and fit together.

and btw here's an easy way to make a cylinder for a tumbler, get yourself a cylinder shaped lidded drum, tin or bucket will parallel sides, cut 3 or 4 "windows" in the side, glue mesh on the exterior and take it from there....the outer container can be the same type of cylinder shape, just one size larger...iow a cylinder inside a cylinder

Got some of the #120 stainless steel mesh from smallparts.com, they sealed it nicely in some heavy vacuum packaging then unceremoniously stuffed it into the packing box, kinking it a bit :bashhead: was able to mostly flatten it out so no problem. Cut out the bottom of a plastic food storage container, cut a piece of the mesh with scissors, stuck the mesh in there with some Reflectrix metallic tape, seemed to seal it down pretty well:
Put that into an identical container, there is about ¼" of space in the bottom for the hash to collect. Crushed up about 24g of buds, put the lid on, and stuck it in the freezer (should have frozen the buds before crushing, next time...), shook it laterally- side to side for about 10 minutes and got this:

Hard to take a decent photo of it but it seemed like mostly heads with a lot of trichome stalks in there, didn't really seem to be much vegetative plant matter. Got about 10 big hits worth of it, good to smoke with good amount of flavor. Smells nice, like a refined version of the bud aroma, a very high sharp note like lime tree blossoms. Nice stuff but not a lot of it at all, shook the box for 10 more minutes and got a slightly smaller amount that seemed comparable in quality.

Found the stainless mesh handy to make a screen out of to smoke the dry sift, its easy to cut with scissors, there is some vapor deposition of oil on the screen from the previous hit :joint:

I have built my own kief box, I use 100 micron stainless steel mesh. I undedrstand its the best all around. I totally agree there is higher grade with smaller microns. There is a box called a bubble box with three dif. mircon sizes. They are I belive, 70 110 and 130- 140. Look it up. It runs around $300 pretty sure. I get decent kief and a good amount. It works for me but I would love to have one of those boxes. Well thats just my two cents. I bought my screen from this site online that sell boxes, search (dreamcatcher) you can geta couple different sizes up to 16 by 16". Anyways thats just my two cents.

from what i have seen, pretty sure some jerkoffs sell it..

yeah, some scum bags do that..that in itself is not a bad thing so long as the buyer is informed prior to purchase (but I bet that never happens!)...but in any case, at least the outer resin heads are not wasted and lost when squashed against the inside of a plastic bag that 99.999% of bud is sold in., I actually bought some bud for a mate of mine recently and it was virtually absent of any exterior resin heads, the inside of the plastic bag had lots of resin! such a waste. I doubt the buds had been sifted or tumbled, more likely poor handling from the time it was grown, cut, dried, manicured, weighed, bagged and re-weighed then re-bagged often more times again before the bag is flattened and handed over then stuffed in a pocket....no wonder there's no exterior trics on the bud! More often than not, cash croppers don't give a shit about quality, it's all about the $$$.

what the world needs is a new type of bag that's perfect for buds!...can you imagine how huge the market would be for a product like this?.

I have built my own kief box, I use 100 micron stainless steel mesh.

resin heads range in size from less than 20 micron to greater than 120 micron in size, but most are in the 50 ~ 100 range (depending on the strain etc).....so 100 micron is way too fine for single screen sifting. I suggest a 110 ~ 130 lines per inch mesh, which is approximately 150 ~ 125 micron (depending on your technique and strain) for single screen sifting.

There is a box called a bubble box with three dif. mircon sizes. They are I belive, 70 110 and 130- 140. Look it up. It runs around $300 pretty sure

it's $250...I've got one and it really has a "high" quality finish of beautiful African rose wood veneer..African rose wood has a beautiful grain.....and this box makes sticky, blonde coloured, melty hash., every smoker who appreciates "blondes" should do themselves a favour and buy one

for a lower cost stash box with dual screen check out Gypsy Nirvana's stash box on seedboutique.com (see stash boxes)..there's two finishes : African Zebra wood (aka Zebrano) which has dark stripes of black and dark brown...and the other is Ash burl wood veneer. This box has the added advantage of having a side storage compartment for grinders etc.

Happy Hashing!
