Anyone ever try these? they seem pretty inexpensive, but not sure if they work.

Will a can fan rated at 420cfm work well enough for a vortex rated at 449?

I meant to say can filter, for some reason the edit feature isnt working.

FWIW, the can-33 is rated for a 6" fan (~449cfm) with a max filter cfm of 219. So if the can filter you are looking at is rated at 420 FILTERED cfm it may be better suited to a larger fan. How big is the room you are trying to filter?

3.25' x a little over 2ft.

How come the can 50 says 420cfm rated, if its designed to take a bigger fan than 420cfm?

is that how much cfm it takes OFF of the vortex/can fan's uninterrupted ability?

I thought it was in relation to what fan your using.

I pulled this info from bghydro.com
CAN FILTER 50 Max CFM: 420 cfm (non-recirculating) Min CFM: 210 cfm Dimensions:
(with pre-filter) ·Outside Diameter: 420mm/16.5"
·Height: 500mm/19.7"
·Total Weight: 25kg/55lbs.
·Carbon Weight: 19kg/42lbs.
·Carbon Bed Depth: 65mm/2.56" Max Operating Temp: 176º F / 80ºC Pressure drop
at max CFM: 180pa/ .75wg Flange:* 6, 8 or 10" Recommended Can-Fan:
FAN Watts Consumed Filtered Air CFM
Can-Fan 10" 142 max watts 368 CFM
Can-Fan 8" 139 max watts 350 CFM
Can-Fan 6" HO 138 max watts 300 CFM

So what that means is, you will get higher air flow with the can50 using a 6" vortex than you would with a can33 and the same vortex fan. But if you are only venting ~6.5 square feet (times whatever your cab height is) then I wouldn't bother with the can50 unless you can get an awesome deal on it. But I am also very new at this so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

second opinions?

I think the vortex 6" w/ 420cfm can would remove all smells but im not sure. Would the airflow still be sufficent? for a 3.5x2x7ft space?

Chief, The 6" should cool and filter a room that size with no sweat!
I used the same combo(6" w/can50) to cool 6x3 with 1200 watts. In the middle of summer it got kinda hot, maybe 80-82. During the cooler months the fan had to be slowed down.

CheifnBud2, I believe DeezyH is right... The basic concerns with a filter and fan combo is that you don't want your fan too powerful so that it pulls the odors through the filter. Also you don't want it lower than the filters minimum as it won't effectively use all of the filter. Let me know if that points you in the right direction.

Keep in mind those CAN filters have TWO ratings...one for recirc/scrubbing, one for exhausting through. On the 50 or 66 (can't remember) the numbers hit about 460 scrubbing and 240 exhausting.

The real issue here is contact time. The scrubbing rating is related to how fast you can pull through the filter with some decent contact time and not damaging the filter. Your recirc/scrubber will filter the same air over and over, so shorter contact times aren't a big deal, you still eliminate the odor. The exhausting rating is slower to ensure enough contact time to get rid of all the odor in one shot before you blow it into your neighbor's yard.
