imagining the tenth dimension

I paused the video, in order to come back and leave a plea to the mods. Please dont close this thread, it could become a very interesting discussion in its own right rather than being lumped into one thread about fat guys falling off mopeds etc.

wow, I read Miko Haku's book, hyperspace, which tackled the same issue through several chapters, and at no point was the concept described anywhere near as clearly as that short animation. As far as I can see, this just adds more weight to my theory that our universe doesn't actually exist, but is instead one possible timeline within a quantum possability of existences, inhabited by beings that are aware not of themselves, but their own possability of existence. Whether our history will ever become an actual history will depend upon the observation made by the first external observer, which in turn it seems will be dependant upon either the method of observation or the question asked prior to the observation being made.

Lol hi skarecrow, thanks welcome to my friends list :)

i dont get it .so there are different creatures in different dimensions? so you can fold dimensions.. how do you fold a dimension. i want to time travel lol..how do we know all this?

lol no the flatlanders were an example to demonstrate how a 2 dimensional being would percieve our 3 dimensional space. In order for us to percieve how there may be more than we can percieve with our own eyes. In Miko's book, (he wont read this so I can use his first name lol), he talks about fish reaching the top of the water and thinking thats the edge of their universe, but the flat lander idea is far better.
In theory yes, but it takes a lot of energy and a being that exists within that dimension to grab the ends lol. The idea of folding the dimensions is just another way to explain the necessity for an additional dimension than the one he is talking about at that point in the animation. Taking it up to 10. The really wierd thing though is that they (true mathematical boffins) currently believe that there may be 11 dimensions, which after watching that animation is truly mind blowing, and I'd love to see how they come up with the necessity for one more after the first 10.

A bit heavy for post 4:20am UK time, but a great little animation, which explained clearly concepts of which I have no previous knowledge. Not sure if I'm up to adding any intelligent input right now, but I'll revisit it tomorrow!

Props for an interesting thread..

ohh, lol.. i was all like so there's flat landers watching me hit the vape. interesting im going to start reading in to this..cool thread.

ahhh, M Theory.....This was important because this extra dimension allowed for strings to stretch..... These Branes, as they were now called could grow and stretch, probably even as great as the Universe itself. or multiverse if you will, Even more bewildering was the discovery that while these Branes could be so unbelievably long they were in reality very thin, probably no more than a millimeter or two in width.

So is it entirely impossible for inter dimensional activity to take place?
For some time it seemed that it was, but then the answer appeared to come through one of the most mystifying forces of nature, good ol gravity! Gravity has always baffled scientists and astronomers because although it binds the courses of the stars and the planets it is essentially a very weak force. Yet it seemed to the String Theorists that here was an answer for this weakness because gravitons with their closed loops were not tied down and appeared exactly the sort of force that could quite literally seep away into another dimension......

If particles could be smashed into one another fast enough it seems feasible that eventually a record of the missing gravitons could be captured at the instant they drifted into this other dimension.....

Now I know I'm going to go over my bandwidth limits this month lol

not sure why but my system really didnt like that page Mr Bong, I tried both quick time and real video options, but my system refused both, then froze.

Very neat.. If you guys like that, I highly recommend you watch the 3 hour Nova special "The Elegant Universe"

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html

Online there.. Chapter 7 of part 2 deals with the extra dimensions thing, very similar take, better graphics hehe.

AWESOME! i had seen the first two before, but not the third..... i also couldn't get the links to work, but i found it on google video http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1736748358304155609
good look-in out

That's too bad.. Likely because they built the page a while back when the show was made, prolly has issues with the modern players or something.

Dunno how you feel about torrents, but here it is in AVI format:

Is there math calculations that prove this? Pretty phenomenal!!!

Yes.

The idea that time (Space-time) is one dimension or linear is what Einstein proved with Theory of Relativity. It basically means that time is just a duration in between two points. You can pick any two points, but time flows linearly like a river from the first point to the second point so it is relative how you decide the points. Space-time or the world as we know has 3 dimensions space, 1 dimension time. Time-space or when you are dreaming is time in 3 dimensions and space in 1 dimension. You time travel every time you dream :ying: Simple enough, the laws that control Space-time are based on geometry and Time-space is controlled by the inverted (flipped inside out) of the Space-time geometry. The catcher is, inverted higher dimensional shapes look like entirely new shapes to us because we only see in 3 dimensions. Here are some shapes and the other color is their inverse.

The dimensions we live in are represented as geometry. A hexagon is made up of plenty of lower dimensional objects like triangles and circles. This pattern goes on forever. Zome is a toylike kenex that let you build this these higher dimension shapes out of lower dimensional shapes.

Math we have is derived from basic geometry symmetry of fractal patterns.

Here is the cutting edge of our understanding of the universe. This is 248 dimensions projected down onto 2. It is called the E8 and it predicts new particles that the math is saying must be there. This is what the LHC Is looking for!

Not every scientist accepts this E8 idea, but I don't understand how anyone could ignore such a natural and beautiful answer to everything.

I do agree that garrets e8 idea is beautiful, but hardly the cutting edge.... more like a knife without a blade or a handle..
Lisi’s paper does not present a theory of everything, makes no predictions, offers no novel, sensible calculations, is replete with errors, as noted by Distler et al, and it adds fermions and bosons.....

Lisi’s paper was knowingly mistitled. he should refrain from lying titles in the future, so as not to confuse Fox News. lol, "Laid-Back Surfer Dude May Be Next Einstein"....For his part, Lisi self-mockingly calls his finding “An Exceptionally Simple Theory of Everything.”
Lisi should retract his error-riddled, mistitled paper, whereupon he can feel free to correct the errors, re title it, and resubmit it, if it is still worth submitting.... :abduct:
