going to try 2 liter bottles...need some suggestions

Im about to upgrade to bigger pots/bottles. I currently use 24oz aquafina bottles cut at the top label. I grow under a 150 hps in a small cab. I currently only get about 2-5 grams per plant(bagseed). Im hoping to get at least 14grams, but even better would be 28grams. I am currently only vegging long enough to let a small root system start-a week or less usually. I have a few that i vegged longer just to see how they turn out. what do some of you guys/gals growing in 2 liters average for a yeild per plant? also how long do you veg for to get this? i will be running this as a perpetual sog, with 9-12 plants flowering at a time. Hope to get some help for some more expierenced micro guys.

I don't usually grow in 2 liter bottles, but I did it as an experiment on my last grow. I use a 150 HPS and I wanted to try out many different strains at once so that's why I decided to go that route for that particular grow.

I started with 15 plants from seed in 2 liter bottles, and ended up with 9 females that were flowered to the end. They were vegged for about 14 days before I flipped over to 12/12. They got off to a real slow start because there was a massive heat wave in my area right about at the same time that I started the grow. My grow #5 is the 2 liter only grow that I did.

I yielded a little over 2 ounces for all combined, about 7 grams a piece. This was with strains that I had never grown before, and they were of varying heights. I'm sure if somebody uses clones or the same strain and dials it in, then they can obviously yield a little bit more. Including the 2 weeks of veg time, the entire grow took about 10 weeks from start to finish.

greenhead-thanks for the pics! Its nice to get an idea of what other people are yeilding in 2 liter bottles. I have talked to another icmag member that yeilded 1oz on a plant in a 2 liter bottle under a 150 hps. But i have no idea how long they vegged for. anyone else have any experience growing in 2 liters? Thanks

ever thought about growing a lot of plants in DWC? A DWC SOG? I could imagine you would pull a monster yield from something like that.

I've grown in everything from 16oz bottles to 18-gallon tubs (those were the good-ole days!), including 2-liters.

If you're getting 2-3 grams in a 24oz container, you're not going to quadruple that by using 2-liters.

Based on the little info given, I'd say you need to (1) veg longer, (2) get some genetics that you know will yield well, if at all possible, for starers.

If you're only getting a few grams per plant, you need get your whole system a bit more dialed first. Container size is not your problem, in other words. Yes, I've used a 150wHPS as well.

This little tub was home to 2 plants under a 150w in a cardboard box. This was just a one-off I did several years ago.

Ya agreed with pig pen, veg longer and get better genetics but like he said are you sure its the pots and not the enviorment??

I am going to be ordering some good genetics once i finish my new cab this weekend probably. Im know im giong to getting mandala hashberry, and speed queen. Also may be getting gifted a skunk #1 fem from a friend, with the possiblity of getting a few kushes, like purple kush and masterkush. I think that once i get in my new cab and get some ff nutes in place of the alaska brand that im using now i should be able to increase my yeild. as well i will try vegging for a lil longer maybe 2 weeks.
I havent really thought about trying a dwc i perfer soil, but may try something like that on a bigger scale later.

A picture speaks a thousand words, and if you can show IC how you grow we will be able to give you alot more information.

Do you use straight potting soil? A soiless mix? Organics? etc

Without seeing your plants/grow space/grow style its really hard to give you solid advice about how to improve it. The best advice I could give would be too look at grow diaries and micro grows who use similar pot sizes. Could you give us an idea of how you grow? Clones/seed (i think u said your growing from bagseed?), lighting, space, ventilation, temps, humidity?

DWC and SOG defeat each others purpose. SOG minimizes root mass and individual plant size so you can cram them in. DWC maximizes root mass so one plant takes the place of 30.

mh, but the roots would have LOTS of room to grow in a big tub? Sure it would get hella crowded in the tub, but whatever? You have one of them big rubbermaid totes (the ones that hold like 31 galons) and put maybe 24 plants in the lid. Put the clones in there untill they root, veg till they have a small root system and then flip to 12/12? I could see something like that working out very well. I was considering something like that for my next grow. See, the plants will be lolipop style single colas, and the roots have all the room they need, if i have to i can always extend the res and give the roots more room to grow.

Sure it would defeat the traditonal purpose of DWC, but i could still see it working out well. Then again, i have never grown in DWC, so i better shut up.

Pack em in tight, learn the growth characteristics of your plants and use cuts if possible. Invest in stakes.

I think this is my biggest issue. my plants seems to have more space between the nodes, should i start trying to get them closer to the light? i've thought about eventually trying out a cmh bulb.

as for more info about my growing-I am using ffof in 24oz bottles. I currently have 2 different bagseeds strains that i am playing with. I am growing from clone, usually with very little veg time-just until i start to see the roots starting down the sides of the bottles. about a week. I really appreciate all the help guys!

The real question is how HIGH do I veg to. I'm always running a couple different strains so it differs. If your growing from cuts as you say all you have do do is record the heighth at which you started 12/12 and see where it ends up. Run your numbers and see how much stretch you had and estimate for the next round until you get it right. Node spacing will be genetic unless your not getting enough light. Keep them as close as safely possible.

The real question is how HIGH do I veg to.

How deep does your lamp penetrate? If you're using a 150 in a SOG, you'll want to flip around 6 inches or less. I forget if it's every 6 or every 12 inches from the lamp costs you half it's strength.

With LST or ScrOG you can veg longer because veg growth is horizontal. I kept my 19 inch colas to 6 inches in height.

These 2 plants I got as rooted clones and I just flowered them right when I got them and did a lil LST on em and I ended up with 13g on one and I think 9g on the other but then I got a different strain and did the same thing and the shit gave me 2-3g so it has a lot to do with genetics too.. Sativa hybrids are great for that kind of growing straight from rooted clone to still get a decent yield

Its good to know that node spacing is also genetic. I think the one bag seed that i have the most cuts of is a mostly sativa because she streches like crazy and has very thin leaves. Im thinking about setting up the inside of my cab with a sort of stadium set up with different heights to get the shorter new plants a lil closer. but this is jst an idea that i may play more with later.

I appreciate everyone's input. Thundurkke-Thats a nice looking girl, its nice to get an idea of what i can achieve in a 2 liter with a 150 hps. how deep will a 150 penetrate with usage light? I think i read it was about 12inches but i could be wrong.
