"Acrylic Tombstones"...

...well its a catchy term for this thing i'm gonna start doing....and i hope some peeps here can help me w/ this.

im gonna be the first to say that im gonna try to jack what this dude is doing.

http://www.wiseguycustoms.com/

...i think he has a goldmine under his feet, and he isn't getting the full potential.

i dont care if someone here jaks this idea either, because i have avenues that are already solid as soon as i perfect the process.

anyway...i bought a shift-knob from this guy, and when i did i spoke w/ him for about 45 mins....sort of poking for info.

i sort of figured it out that he is using "lucite" acrylic and has made tons of dif. molds...then he puts insects, spiders, razor blades, rattlesnake heads, scorpions...etc (could even put a nugg in one).

they are on bases w/ threads molded in, and adaptors for almost all shifters.

here is an actual pic of the one i got from him:

all i know right now is i need lucite acrylic info, and need to start making some forms for molds, and start shopping some hardware, and interesting things to bury.

:1help:

ive never seen one in a 'gift shop'...i dont get out much but if they are i bet it's not that quality?

my exgirl got me one from a museum gift shop... it was just as nice of a quality and had really great clarity also actually.. and glowed in the dark (not the insect but the backing)...

i cut it in half to piss her off, shit was denseeeeeeee.

my memory is a little fuzzy but its basically just making a hole (certain size) then epoxying threads into that hole and bam, you got a shifter knob or a tap handle

I agree man, acrylics are a friggin goldmine. A big thing now are those little 1 or 2 gallon "nano" aquariums.

Lexan is a big thing for windshields now that they figured out a way to coat it so that it doesn't scratch. It's lighter than glass and you can smack it with a sledgehammer and not break it.

I've seen hand blown shifters recently on GlassArtists.org

NOKUY - Those are usually paperweights. I've seen them for a LONG time. I saw the first one, which was a giant black scorpion, around age 8 or so...

I would see there being a much larger market for the blown glass shifters. Acrylic would be good if you suspended different types of materials in it, maybe inject different colored acrylic bubbles into the center of the clear acrylic....have good molds and stuff...

I would much rather have a clean ass dichro glass one though for sure... wouldn't be to expensive for glass either...shifter could probably be had for less than 2 bills.

Lol @ the nugg in the shifter idea

"License and registration please sir"
"Sure"
"Sir, is that marijuana in your stick shifter?"
"No that's a replica"

So where's the tombstone? Is the shifter knob commonly referred to as a tombstone? Pretty nifty, but I don't drive any more because there's a chance I could have a seizure.

Gettin' old ain't for pussies.
