Just started growing i have a 150w hps much like one shown in pic, what is a good distance to keep light from plants

As long as you've got decent ventilation, and a fan blowing across the bulb, 4-6 inches seems to generally be about right from reading through the thread. The closer the better really, the best way to find out is to hold the back of your hand under the light for a minute - if you can take it without feeling uncomfortable, so can your plants.

The only exception is for very young plants or clones, or if you've just moved them from weaker lighting - in those cases you want it 8-10" away for a short while.

This is actually the reason I came on the thread.

Good advice McSnappler. If yer hps canopy temp is no hotter than the CFL, your plants should be fine out of the gate. Just keep an eye on em for a day or two. That's a pretty bright CFL.

Sweet. I've had a little play around, and have got it around 5" from the plants, with temps at the tops at 78c.

I have a circulating fan in there, which is reaching the bulb, but I'm sure with a direct fan on the bulb I could go lower. Just haven't quite rigged up the new reflector yet, so for the moment I've just got one 150W rolling with the reflector from my CFL - definately seems to be enough light for the moment as I don't have a full tent yet.

catman was that your first grow>? cause i see you had some ph/fert/RH and other probs and long lanky plants. im sure you will get better with time and im sure you will get some smoke out of this harvest no matter..>what is your plans for your future grows and what are you going to do differant to get things dialed in.?

Oh, and by the way.....

Those two bud shots look just fine, and the second bud has pretty nice colors on it. There's also plenty of trichomes on both.

i disagree about having hps so close..i have about 20 grows in so far under 150hps, my closet grow & others i set people up with we all leave HPS around 8"-10"-12" above plants and grow lush dank plants

Maybe it wasn't your intention, but the dude just posted a couple of decent looking budshots close to harvest, and especially if it was his first grow (i have no idea if it was or not), then he's probably feeling pretty good about it. I remember how I felt on my first grow, I was happy as hell towards harvest time, and just amazed that I had even managed to grow my very own buds for ridiculous cheap, without having to buy it anymore.

It's just that the tone of your post kind of sounds like you were putting his grow down.

Anyhow, that's just my 2 cents. Others may agree or not.

ill admit i do try and break catgirls balls just a tad all in fun
thanks man..beleave it or not them plants have not got any ferts and lush.. straight Promix Bx,,added Wormcasts a bit more Perlite and a pinch of epsom salt.. feed straight tap water no PH balance..tho i wish i did have a Ph/ppm meter.

that lanky stretchy thing is the back right was the runt and just took off and i could not stop her..she just kept growing like a WEED..lol I hacked her to death along with a few others that just to small and shaded. i cull hard..if it aint up to par in what i like in a plant i hack it..no sense keeping the weak link around! enjoy
