Hamstrings striking seeds in the bush 2009

Hey guys wanted to share my 2009 grow

Like last few years I start them in a marsh in a cold frame. I made a few improvements to the cold frame its self. I wanted to make it easier to pack in to the bush so I went from all hard sides(see last pic of old frame) to just the top being solid material. As you can see everything fits well in the container. I designed a special pack to lug this thing in. With soil I am guessing around 50lbs or more. It was hell packing these things in but much easier than last year.

So this year most of my strains are from UDG. This first frame has nothing but GG3 in it and these things are so vigorous that the jump out of the bag and plant themselves. I soaked them 24hrs and they were all popping. Sowed them and within 4 days I had very close to 100% success ratio.
I try and get 2 seedlings per cup and plant a few with 3 to make up for some that don’t come up but F***ing A these things are vigorous.

I want to transplant one seedling from any cup containing three. When do you think I should do this??? After they have established 2 –3 sets of real leaves???

The second the frame has AK99XFL and they too were soaked for 24 hrs but none had opened before they went into the ground so I not surprised they are a little behind. I also believe the soil could have been more moist.

I still believe 3-4 more days and I will have enough to put 2 to a cup.

The last pic is of a few seeds that were popped but not moist enough to finish. I transplanted them and watered. What do you think will they make it???

PEACE

hey,

yes i have some two days old seedlings, under cfl, ghetto style:) but they are growing fast.
logistics is killing me this year, i'm lonely, so I'll plant under 10 plants and hope for best
and i chose that my grow this year shoud rely on outdoor strain (frisian dew), i have also some whites from GHS, i'll put them out mid june+, don't want big plants at the end of october.

Let's hope weather stays stabil through season.

Regards

Hey Hamstring, looks good buddy, I like your style. The cold frame is sick, looks easy and cheap to put together. K+ on that
And nice strain selection too!

.. Keep us updated

Thanks technine

I have been toying with cold frames for around 4 years and I learned a lot about them at OG and IC mag. I needed one that was discrete so I came up with this idea that keeps everything right at 3 ft tall making it ideal for security.

I keep trying to improve it and by that I mean easier to pack in and discrete as possible. Both of these are in a marsh so burying the container was out of the question but I have a 3rd one that will buried to the top of the container with a shorter cover. Just looking for 10-12 inch seedlings before removing them.

One thing I learned that may be worth passing on to anyone interested is to purchase the recycled 3mil- 5mil clear plastic because it is less shiny than regular so no reflective surface to give it away at longer distances. Also goes with out saying the screen material is black.

I still have a ton to learn and that’s an understatment but I keep on keeping on.

Would be nice if they made some sort of camo plastic that lets light through??

Peace

Hi hamsting

Good to see you up and running. That still looks to be a heavy load and it seems like you're setting up to have a early harvest with the udg stuff.

I dont strike mine at the patch, but at a week old, i transfer them into the site seedling box. I have started using a clear topped plastic box. If we have a neavy frost, i take off the wire cover and use the clear lid. I also leave it buried and use it as an onsite clone box.

I would seperate/ transplant my twins as soon as they get a couple of little hair roots, usually within a week of popping through the soil. If you wait to long, the 2 sets of roots will entange for a tough, traumatic seperation for youngsters.

I wish you all the luck that I hope for myself.... easy grow with heavy yields!

A little bit of an update. I took the advice from SB and others and transplanted any of the cups with 3 seedlings into other cups with one. They had roots almost to the bottom of the cup already. I was pleased with them and think they will fair well. Here are some pics of the GG3.

Well as I thought Jay Sprouts AK99XFL just needed a few more days. I would say around 85% germ ratio and I am very happy with it because Jay said he has no more of this strain. I hope to make a few F1s (if that is correct terminology) still a newbie at breeding but learning.

I transplanted any of the 3's here also and if it doesn’t stop raining one of these F***ing days I am starting to worry about damp off with all the friggin moisture.
Any one have a product to stop damp off in soil just in case????

Next time hope to put down 1/4 strength water soluble 20-20-20. We will see how weather goes I sure in hell don’t want to add nutes to soil that never dries. That spells M-O-L-D.

All pics below are of AK99XFL

Just one more cold frame to put out and it will burried to the top of the container and be full of f1 BBXNL. I hope to have some pics soon. No need to get BBxNL out too soon it turns into a giant with a full growing season and gets done Oct15th so plenty of time.

Some updates 5 days can make a big difference if we had some sustained sunshine and temps in the mid 70 deg mark I think they would be twice as big. I gave them all 1/4-strength nutes to give them a kick in the pants or skirt. All the transplants are doing well so we should have 24 pairs of GG3 and AK99XFL. Still a long way to go and I still have one more cold frame for the NLXBB to set up. The clock is ticking guerrillas lets "GET IT ON"

Take a look at a side by side from 5 dyas ago quite a bit of difference look at the relationship to the cup. If the next 5-7 days have any sunshine they should double in size again.

The AKXFL took a little bit of a beating when fed but they will pop back up.

42 deg north. Upper Midwest not UP or anything but last year my GG2 (I Think) it was a mix pack finished at the end of August so I expect right around the same for the GG3.

The AK99XFL has tow phenos one will finish by Sept 20th and one by Oct1st. I had both phenos last year and the later one was my fav. We will see which one is the winner this year. Breeder brad turned me on to this one. He cloned a good pheno and I believe he still grows it. He had a Sept 20th finisher. JaySprout is the breeder and he said no more so I plan on pollinating one of them.

are you going to move them again separately or choose the best from those 2 plants in each pot?
I'd say is better to start each plant with it's own container. For larger number of seeds you can germ them in Jiffy's (cocopeat seed starters). This is the way I do it.
I also started some seeds for this year's outdoor, they are just a little bigger than yours (now they are in 200 ml plastic cups), I'm veggin' them indoors.

Hope will have a great outdoor season this year. I'll watch your thread. :lurk:
good luck with your grow!

I only transplant if there is 3 per cup down to 2 per cup. All plants are started outdoors and once 12inchs the 2 per cup are transplanted into one hole each. That way I hedge my bets on one female per hole. I have done this for a few years and my soil conditions in the fertile Midwest can support two plants per hole.

I like the peat pucks idea but I have 13 inches of soil in each container for a reason so my plants can spread their roots out of the cups ( all have large holes in bottom) into the soil incase I cant water every few days. This becomes especially important when the seedlings get larger and the weather warmer.

Thanks right back at you guerrilla brother. Glad you can get out of the cellar and join us outdoors I will be following your grow.

Little J
Well we will see on the seeds but for sure I should have some AK99XFL to throw around at the end of the season.

The rippers did not get my germ spot which is in the swamp they hit (13) 7ft plants 1-2 weeks from being complete plants. As always you must blame yourself for these things no other way to look at it unless you want to repeat same mistakes over and over.

Rob547
Hey brother it may have been or, it was, a little misleading but what I meant was that my seedlings are stretchy (always are) and when I poured the water with nutes on them it physically knocked them over.

I use 20-20-20 water-soluble nutes at ¼ strength so I don’t foresee any problems I have done this before but every time is unique.

Them babies are looking nice hamstring..how often u using the 20-20-20 and when will u go to full strength? good luck with em, and stay safe....
