I was thinking and wondering. What is better?
Putting them in pots/large containers
or
Putting them in the ground with pots/large containers(depending on setting depth)
or
Just putting them straight into the ground.

depends on your strain and climate .

Generally they are ready a bit earlier in pots/containers.

But in the ground , they can become real monsters with also a monster yield.

Sure in containers they also get very big , but nothing compares to putting them in ground.

But if u have a wet climate , maybe it is better to put them in containers so u can move them indoors when it gets too humid/cold.

So in my case the best thing is taking early finishers and growing them in full ground.

and they don't dry out as much

ah yesss and i forgot , in the ground u have almost zero maintenance.

But in pots , indeed , when it becomes hot , you had better check on your babies daily

Now i am not sure about this , but i could swear that a plant grown in the ground is more potent than if u take same cutting and grow it in a pot.

I only did this twice and 2 times the one in ground was just stronger.

But I am not claiming this is a fact , just something i noticed , anyone wanna chime in?(with experience in growing in ground and pots and same clone)

Since when does a plant in a pot show a shorter finishing time compared to the same strain in the ground? I've never heard of this before and it doesn't mesh with what I have experienced ... Maybe if you took that potted plant In for a longer dark period or covered it to induce flowering Earlier ...

well since always actually(at least here and with people I know)

The ones in pots are always ready 10 days-2 weeks earlier.

I think that cuz the plant in the pot senses it has limited space , it will flower earlier.

The one in full ground doesnt have that limit and will try to grow as much so it can produce more buds so the slut can take as much male sperm flying trough the air as possible :D

Same thing happened to my mazar this year .

@weedman , do you also grow outdoors? ever compared this?

it may not sound logical , but it happens every year:puppydoge

Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

i have had plants flower early due to being root bound because they weren't in the ground..maybe that happen

As said before, if possible in the ground is better. Bigger plants, cooler roots, lowered watering needs.

Sometimes though, conditions may not allow in the ground planting, or perhaps planting in a container makes some aspects of the grow easier.

The biggest downsides to containers are that the container can be dried out or get too hot by the sun, and you are limited by the capacity of the container.

I'm in the south. So its really hot. I plan on putting them into 5 gallon buckets. But if I can't get my hands on to many free ones then I'll put them in the ground. Only problem is I'm afraid if I plant them in the ground they might get flooded because it does rain allot here in the south.

Yeah make sure you don't plant in a low lying area. If you have to then try and build a little mound so they dont get totally flooded. Having a small harvest is better than flooded and nothing at all, thats for sure.

With some careful planning and a couple hours of work I think you could find a place to put them in the ground though. It would make a considerable difference. Good luck.

5 gallon buckets dry too fast around here....in the south (34 deg) my plants last year needed water like every 2 days in july and august, thats why i am using 30 gals with water crystals and holes in the ground w/ water crystals this time

I'm probley gonna put them in the ground. To make it stealthier and for cooling reasons.
I'm gonna keep them in pots/buckets till they out grow them.
Before I put them in the ground. Should I let the plants make some sort of root ball then put them in there or wait until they just reach the bottom of the pot then put them in the ground?

If I were you I'd just plant them straight in the ground now, no pot, or else use a large enough pot that you don't need to replant them again.

If they aren't going to finish the season in the pots, I can't see a good reason to leave them in the pots in the first place.

well generally after 2-3 weeks in a container u can transplant them.

Wait till you see some white roots showing themselves at the bottom of the pot. Then transplant them.

The soooner they go in the ground the bigger they will become

There are several reasons guerrila grows do containers;
one, you can place a cont. in the middle of a large bushes for camo, two, no water is wasted into surrounding earth, (water is precious so I don't want any wasted
3, no other plants compete for your nutes.
4, I don't like digging a hundred holes, lol, biggest reason, lol.
5, animals have a harder time reaching the plants, other than deer etc which are fencing out and each cont. is surrounded with deer fencing to boot. Also if you need to move em, Sun moves, rippers etc you can.
I use heavy polymers and the moisture requirements are not different for the ground or container, in my area NO rain will fall. Dry is dry, the sides if you were wondering are not exposed to the Sun nor is the top, its mulched heavily and I buy artificial leaves/flowers etc to help camo. The 32g trash cans I use are perfect for thick foilage areas as they "elevate" each starting plant to "horizon" height to get more Sun. Now if I was in an area that received rainfall I might opt for the ground as the circumstances are much different. And NO they don't finish at a earlier time. I wish, lol.

i've never really done it, so i wouldn't know, but i've kind of wondered, since containers tend to dry out quickly due to sun exposure (i assume), couldn't this be remedied by covering/shading the container with something? brush or cloth or whatever? if not remedied completely then maybe helping enough to reduce the number of waterings? because for those reasons mentioned above and others, growing in containers can be plus in certain situations. just a thought.

Straight in the ground. Soil temps in containers match air temps over time.

too much watering.
