first i like to thank blazeonup for the tutorial on the rdwc. the shit is making my life easier and my plants happier. well i finally got some pics and this is for you bandit, simpleword, and everyone else that's been helping me. thanks and enjoy!!!

my homemade chiller!! hahaha i just hooked it up so i'll let you guys know if it's going to work. i got this 5.5cu chest freezer from walmart for $160 and only uses 180watts. i pretty much added a 15gal bin inside it and hook it to my rez and recirculated it. i have about 100 gallons to chill so it might not work. lol but for anyone with 20-30 gallons i bet you this will work for you for sure. but we'll see if it'll work for my big ass. wish me luck!!!

interesting solution for a chiller...I'd like to know how this works out. I wonder if you are killing any microbes or losing any nutrients due to the cold temps of the freezer...

i just changed my water so its at 69f right now but it'll get up to 75f by tomorrow im sure. but hopefully this freezer doesn't let it climb that high. i highly doubt it'll kill any of my beneficials cuz the water is constantly circulated so it doesn't get that cold. i'll find out tomorrow and ill let you know bro.

the regular non aced ones that have no flanges give off way more lumens
not a big deal but might want to check it out hoods are pretty cheap

bambam- hey thanks bro! how many gallons do you have to chill? i think it'll work if you have a total of like 20-30 gallons. i just checked on mine this morning it's up from 69f to 73f. so we'll see if it'll climb any higher by tonight.

Plants look amazing, you might have a slight nute problem but thats not really something i would worrie about.

But anyway i was wondering about that freezer of yours; you dont use copper tubes inside it? Copper tubes through antifreeze liquid? explain please

hey thanks guys! cyber, i pretty much added and extra rez to my system but put it inside the chest freezer so it can chill. as far as copper tubes i just didn't want to take the freezer apart. i figure i just try this out and see if it'll work.

Ah ok, yea i've been through this idea of chilling the res aswell but the way your using it now is very ineffective, no offence You should however add a res into the freezer, mount copper tubes inside the res. Curl up some meters of copper tubing to make the most of the surface area, the more copper tubing you can put into the res the better, however there should be room for the antifreeze liquid aswell.(use standard car antifreeze fluid) Just make sure the copper tubing has no leaks.



Then mount a pump inside your res and connect it to the desired end of the copper tube and turn it on as you need cooling. You could also easily attach a thermostat to the pump for automatic control. And something you have to remember if your using this method is that the freezer needs to be placed higher than the res, or else the water will stay in the tube and freeze, ruining it. AND when it comes to copper, probably not the best material to use with the plants, you should/could use pvc or some other sort of plastic tube.
