Well, Madrecinco, I was going to let it go til I read the above response and took it upon myself to do a little googling as you suggested.

As I only have a passing interest on this subject, I just read wiki. Yes, wiki is not an oracle of wisdom to be sure so take it with a grain of salt. Also, check the references (Library of Congress online)

It is true that royality practiced incest as you say for the purpose of consolidating power, wealth and/or bloodline.

So, with this said... it is clear (from what little I have read on the subject) that incest with first cousins and further distant cousins is acceptable in many cultures and is more widely practiced and for primarily wealth, land and power. So this brings your "greater inbreeding within royality than there is the general population as a whole" theory into question.

But I defer to your knowledge on the subject as I have yet to learn everything.

I knew what the sqeal like a pig meant I have heard that lame line many times as a southerner and it is OFFENSIVE to me and OTHER southerners HERE who quietly put up with that CRAP! but I am sure you don't care. I use wiki for quick reference but read much on history since I retired especially.

The LAST CZAR was married to a German princess and she was also Queen Victorias grandaughter. The Kaiser in Germany was related to English royalty. The last czar in Russia Nicholas looks just like the Kaiser and also resembles Edward who abdicated the throne to marry an American divorcee,,,,,WALLIS must have had some good vijayjay to get a guy to give up his crown for her.
