It works best if you change the water every couple days for oxygenization purposes unless you have an airstone.I've never had good luck with the process but many do

i've put cuttings into shot glasses on the windowsill and they've shot roots after close to a month on their own without any nutes, rooting hormones, or a water change. so yes, it works, but is it the best way to go about rooting, NO. might be good if one were to have to ditch all their vegging plants and keep a few cuttings alive in minimal space/effort.

thanks very much for the replys fellas. my buddy had some cuttings given him in a seed tray he put them by his window for light but today they are all droping looks like they might die the guy that give them to him said he had soaked the cuttings in water for a few hours then diped them in rooting powder but they are not looking very healthy any ideas on this issue.

are they in full sun at the window? clones only need little indirect sunlight, or a 11-20 watt cfl is enaugh for them to root. keep the growing medium moist till you see them starting to grow. (what medium are they in?)

I like to keep mine in water till they have some roots, then put them in soil. but if the growing medium is moist with the help of the rooting powder they should start growing in a week or two.

cfl would be best, they dont need much lights. sun will kill them in worst case

during the spring and summer you can leave clones in indirect sunlight, they will get roots, but using some low wattage cfl's you get roots faster.

you can put them under 20w compact flouro. another easy way to get roots is to put the cuts in wet jiffys with a lil root hormon and in a freeze bag. you will have roots in a week to 10 days and shouldnt worry about the jiffys drying out
