they dont deal w/ the taxes thats your shit.

last boat i worked on was a halibut longline boat out of seward alaska, and they gave me 100 bucks every time we offloaded...was like 15 times in 9 weeks..and got a final check of a bit over 30,000 last day.

they didnt do payroll tax..that was on me, but i havent sent in a tax return in over 15 years.

Back in the early 80's I was close to running instead of doing the mandatory 12 months jail time for my 2nd DWI offense in NY. My only lucrative option was a fishing boat my brother-in-law was setting me up with in Alaska that he'd worked on, tough dirty work but great money & few options made it look appealing to me. Luckily enough my attorney was as crooked as the judge and a $5,000 payoff kept me free, the judge sent everyone in felony court to jail that day except me, I was called to the bench last & was threatened by the judge that I was next to go to jail if I returned to his court. Anyway my back couldn't stand the amount of work required on a fishing/crabbing boat today as I'm approaching 60 soon enough. If any of those boats had a cooks position (not that I've seen one) open I'd be able to nail it.

yeah bro almost all cook jobs require u to be a deckhand too....ive seen a few exceptions.

i hate cooking, and that actually helped me, cuz it meant more galley time for the rest...and more deck tgime for me.

Hey NOKUY, cool of you to offer this information man!

I'm from europe, but I'm definitely intrigued by this, have been considering going to alaska or canada if I was able to find me some hard work that can pay well. Would have to work out visa and stuff, but this is some interesting stuff man

OK Nok! I want a nice cushy job as an RN in a summer camp full of spoiled bratty kids, where I do absolutely nothing, have my own quarters and no drug test please. Or even better RN at a Lodge or something with adults....

Some guys look for reasons to not work

My guess is that after one trip he would be hooked on all of the male bonding anyway

shit when fishermen come in the ladies know it...im gonna stop there so i dont offend anyone.

ya ya but i think it is shitty enough working at a job with nothing but guys. Especially old jambly guys. :joint:

being with no one but them for a few months would just really suck all the more.

Are you a little homophobic......And you would be surprised just how tough these "old jambly guys" are....

I couldn't do it. I get seasick way too easy. Plus have you seen the fisherman at your local harbor? They are weathered and lonely people, not all but a majority of them are where I live. I would too if I had been acustomed to making a good living by catching fish and suddenly there aren't any fish to catch. kind of sad around here, 3 years ago the harbor was busy, people from all over the pacifc coast coming and going offloading tons of fish, now its a ghost town.

with no experience from what I understand you would prolly have to start on a salmon fishing gig in the summer then work your way up. u don't get on one of them crab boats without at least some fishing experience.

The way the economy is going, you may get your wish!
I hear you dude. I can deal with some aspects of this world of ours that require an alpha attitude. But I think the first time that crazy boat went half sideways from a wave, I'd be in the middle of the boat crying like a baby.

That pic OP posted is absolutely insane.
