Not necessarily, but it can. It's possible for a plant to have different smells in early veg, late veg and flower.

yea quite often shortly after my lights go off a gorgeous planty smell fills the room, i usually find that the ones that smell the most in early veg are males

How can the above Quote be taken as gospel.

Get off Mommy Computer and go out and get some dinner and grow some brains

I experiment with this with every grow. I label every plant a birth, take notes and try my best to pre-sex by reading signs. And getting pretty good at it. yes, plants of the same strain that stink more during veg are very likely male plants. Take your own notes and see.
Early stretching, high odor, no branching. However, I've also had a few males that fooled me and all the way to sexing completely I thought , nice female. Those I use to breed with.

Most likely that plant will keep it's smell. Weird how you can plant 40 seeds of the same strain and get 4 totally diff phenotypes. Pick one you like, odor, growth traits etc and master it. working one strain for a few years makes a person a better grower and you really learn how to push that particular strain. luck

Like almost any aspect of the growing plant, the aromas can change in their intensity by the day, week, or hour. Time of day ... ( or from lights-on ) can make a difference.

The more seedlings you screen, and the more times you screen them, the more information you'll get. In my experience, groups of 50 - 60 seedlings can have 3, 4, or more distinct smells, plus some with almost no smell at all, and a few smelling like cut grass, hay, or mint.

Cup the top few leaves and the center sprout in your hands and compress them, rub a bit, then stick your nose in and sniff.

Don't try to smell them all at once ... no more than a dozen in a row ... then take a sniff-break.

Let your nose rest for a while, and don't smoke any herb either. A clear head, and an open nose, are needed.

( By the way, ... women are often more sensitive to the nuances of these aromas. )

Take notes ... shorthand codes written on a white foam cup are quick and easy.

D.J. Short has a list of smells that he keeps in consideration when breeding.

Good info brother.

I just experienced something new with seedlings, maybe you could answer this. 2 baby plants of Blueberry x Blue Kronic. Both showed some excellent purple streaks on the leaf's for the first few days after birth and it has since faded mostly away. YA think this trait may return in flower as a purple phenotype? Got a thread going on these, be interesting to see if it shows up later on eh?

fuckin A. this guy knows what hes talking about

For the record, I have also found the same to be true.

The ones that grow the quickest are likely to be males.

The ones that smell the most during veg are also likely to be males.

Then most likely it's just a stinky phenotype. And some like this and actually feel the stinky pheno's carry more potency. Can't comment on this as I don't know.

Watch the fem'd seeds. They have a tendency to respond poorly to stress and may show hermie traits at week 4/5 of flowering. Just my experience with my own fem'd seeds. I got 99% female's and very few hermie's , but it does happen.

Best of luck my friend. and Lost in a Sea I thank you for your Kudo's.

Well the mint smell has died down abit, but the smell thats starting to come out is very stinky, classic bud smell.

my grapefruit smelling plant is getting a stronger grapefruit smell by the day

Aw, shit! I hope this winds up not being the case for the bagbean I just popped: the thing is no more than 4" tall and already has a crazy stink! Never seen anything like it. I mean, there's that plant smell we all take for granted, and then there's seedlings with a little stink to 'em... but this one makes the whole room smell ever so subtly (but noticeably) skunky...

Not the greatest pic, but here it is:

the stinky bagseed had a smell i cant discribe, but it was strong.

unforciantly i lost the stinker due toa police scare, but 3 clones have rooted of my grapefruit.
