I use 600watt hortilux super hps bulbs. I buy cases at a time, and have noticed that out of every so many bulbs i get some that have a "blue hue" when they turn on. Sometimes they go to normal color once fully ignited, but sometimes they dont!!!...... Ive had this happen on several occasions, and i have had to go and exchange them. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

sometimes the bulbs need several ignitions to reach their optimum performance.

Some manufacturers...pre-burn their bulbs...to check for quality.
Making good HID lamp bulbs is...harder than you think it is.

I've noticed this after running hortilux lamps on electronic ballasts for 2 flowering cycles or so. It normally occurs when I'd be changing them out anyways so I never really cared much.

I did however switch to solarmax 600w hps lamps and they have not done this. All burn identically and look hps orange. My hortilux lamps always varied from bulb to bulb.

Perhaps its a electronic ballasts thing - wearing out the hortis quick. I do believe hearing hortilux had some gripe concerning how electronic ballasts' high frequency effected the bulbs lifetime or something.

they probably slipped you some of their "high performance hortilux blue's. That's what I run in veg..!
definately not the case with 600w lamps. dont think EYE makes 600w BLUEs...and the 400w and 1000w version look way different then a standard halide.

Would like to here more on this issue of the Hortilux 600s leaking their "HPS" and appearing more like halides after a few runs with em.

My 430w hortilux does this sometimes, but within a minute is fine. This only happens for me when the unit is first turned on.

Hortilux blues dont come in 600watt, at least i dont think they do, and thats what size bulbs i run.

Im about to do a light test with my meter when i get a chance. I am installing new bulbs soon. Im gettin to the bottom of this. I wanna know if im paying 70 bucks a bulb from a company with shitty craftsmanship or not. Even if it is from the digital ballasts, they could at least come out and let people know this information on their website, instead of waiting for some stoner to actually do a test one day with a light meter, and then bitch about it when he finds that the lumens/spectrum is not up to par like the rest of the lights in the batch.
