Kinda odd, but how big of pot?

In order to try to maximize my growing space, I'm looking to find the smallest size pots I can take my girls to harvest in, without strangling themselves that is. I've looked all over town and there are very few choices unfortunately :( I was wondering if a 2L bucket would work.. like from the tall margerine/ice cream containers? I have some older 12" regular pots but I know last time my girls didnt use all the root space, and if I use them, I cant fit nearly as much in my new cabinet. I've been TRYING to find square pots, but they seem to be non-existant other than the big resin planters, but those are all like 15"+.

So would a 2L work? or is there a minimum pot size in inches I should be aiming for?

i have seen people grow in 2oz containers, but you want to maximize yield, its all relative to what your grow space needs. i grow in 2,3 and 5 gallon grow bags with a 600watt hps.

2l will work, but you probably wont get that great of a yield per plant.

what size and type of light are you using? how big is your grow area? how many plants are you shooting for?

The cabinet I settled on is 48"w x 20"d x72"h but there is a top shelf I'm keeping in for electrical/supplies area so I have about 60"h in grow area. I have a 400w HPS/MH light and was shooting for a 4-5 plant harvest.. possibly upto 6.

Scoopable cat litter comes in rectangular buckets of varying sizes. Do you know anyone with cats?

I wouldn't try a 2L for anything but stretchy sativas and even then, I would only use it for clones.

@Weedninja: Unfortunately no, I only know 1 person with a cat, and they use boxed stuff.. but that is a great suggestion thnx.

k, so since the 2L are a no-go lol.. these are what I have available atm...

L to R are 10", 8", and a 4L icecream tub that measures 7"x7" and 6.5"h.. I was thinking using the 4L's and a couple of the 8's as needed.. do these look to be better sizes? or should I just stick to using the 10's?

I have seen people on this forum get good results from milk or orange juice jugs. They are square and could be fitted multiples to a small space, much more space-efficient than circular pots. You can get several shapes, from squarish 1gal or 1/2gal milk jugs to juice containers that are more rectangular.

you should be able to use those 4L's but i would recommend 2 gal grow bags, you could fit 6 plants in there no problem and get a pretty hardy yield. i would not put more the 6 plants in there, rule of thumb- 1 plant per square foot, you have a little under 8 square feet of usable space, even a little less cause you dont want your plants touching the sidewalls.

Its more important IMO to utilize all the available soil in each container before transplanting up a size to get best results.I start in 4 inch nursery pots to 2 gal nursery size(1.6)gal and veg to 30 inches or better. Then I would flower in a true 3 gal pot and get 1/4 pound blockheads every time.If I had started directly in the large pot I'd be lucky to yield an ounce with the same veg time.Whatever sizes you use let the rootball fill the container before moving up a size its really important with indoor soil container grows
