i have a whole bunch of used jars, be it from pickles or salsa or w/e

almost all of them still have a strong odor of whatever was in there

anyone have any reccomendations to get this smell out so i can use them for curing? otherwise ill just go buy some but i wont be able to get to the store for a day or two.

BTW i put a few nugs in to see if they would ovr power the smell and the buds came out smelling like pickles:fsu: so i dont want to risk my crop with stinky jars. i just dont want the buds to get crispy waiting for jars

I've found jars in 1L and 1.5L cases of 12 for under $10.. why bother trying to clean pickle jars when they are cheap to buy new?

Don't forget to boil the lids too, thats where a lot of the smell will be coming from.

Might try bleaching them too, either before and/or after boiling.

fill with warm water and a teaspoon of bicarbinate of soda (baking soda)

seal and leave for a day - turn jar upside down for most of the time so the solution is in contact with the lid.

also dont put the lid on clean jars - just rest it on top without tightening - this should keep them fresh:joint:

pickle jar is so far still a failure the smell is too strong. other jars clean up appropriately and i went out and bought some bigger sealing jars fro the colas and such

you wont be able to get the smell out of a pickle jar. somebody once told me only smells you cant get out are garlic and pickle.
i used a garlic jar that i cleaned vigorously, and my buds did have a garlic smell and taste after a bit of a cure

i say give up. get a new jar.

90% or better rubbing alcohol will do the trick. Even 4 pickle jars. nothing fixes a marinara jar thou, dont bother. Ewww.

Walfart does have perfect mason jars for less than a buck each. I have a jar attachment for my vacuum sealer for bud storage, it rocks!

stuff them with unbleached recycled paper and cap them. change paper once a week and sniff. worked with my flask to get mouthwash smell out. but really all the work it might be worth it to get some canning jars from the supermarket

Without being so damn complicated, this question was answered in post #6, just put the rings and jars in the dishwasher and buy a new box of lids, they're cheap.
