need advise, mentoring for sogging

Hello, I am very new to growing and I am planning a sog grow. My flower room will be 5.5ft by 4.2 ft. I am going to have two 600watt HPS light for the room. The mother and clone room is 3ft by 3ft with one 250 MH and one 400 HPS. Are the lights good enough?

I will be do a drain to waste system using canna coco range of nutes.

I was planning on using PB8 pot bags (1 gal approx. square pot bags). should be able to get 80 plants into the flower room.

The plan is to clone 20 plants every fortnight. I am guessing I should take clones and give them 3 weeks(from cutting date) in the veggie/mother room to give them a chance to develop roots and a little bit of grow. Would this be a good idea?

I got a choice between two strains. one is hawaii skunk, the other is juicyfruit. Which strain would be best for sogging? I might be able to get a sensi star(or did the guy say he had devi star, well something star anyway) clone for a mother one day, would the star be better than the two I have already got?

Also, forgot to say. My soilless mix is 70/30 coco/perlite. I was using 1/3 each is coco, Vermiculite and perlite, but i thinking of dropping the Vermiculite. I have not read of other coco users using it. Is this a good plan?

Any advice you guys can give me, would be great.

Regards Kiwiboy

I'd consider taking the 400w out of veg and put it in flower with the 600w... I run a 1k room and only use 8 CFLs to veg, and it keeps up with the flower room's needs just fine. 250w mh is enough for a 3'x3' veg area, in general a veg rooms needs about 25% of the light the flower room gets.

I generally take 20-30 clones and keep the best 10-14 when flowering time comes, toss the remaining ones and start a new generation of clones. A little veg time is a good idea but I try to flower them between 8" and 12" before they get too tall. You can throw them in at the first sign of new growth (not 1 new set of leaves, but 2-3 new nodes), or let them hit 8" - 12" and trim off the branches that grow before flowering. This technique is called "lollipopping" and helps get a giant single cola bud. More info including some descriptive intructions can be found here: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=118760

From my limited knowledge of coco, if you use the fine coco it holds air better and I'm pretty sure you won't need the perlite with it. This is just my opinion, but I am by no means an expert with coco. I have never used it, just read about it.

Don't know about your genetics but the general rule of thumb is indica is more suited for SoG, however some Sativa strains work well for it too, but I'd never suggest running them at the same time due to height variations that would cause problems with the height or your lighting.

Feel free to ask more questions, I'll answer the best I can and I'm sure more people will chime in too.

Thanks for the advise Troubleguy.

How able putting the 400hps in between the two 600hps? that what give about 70watt per square ft.

And after considering yr advice, I'll take 30 clones and keep the best 20 every two weeks. Just hope one of my strains can finish in 8 weeks, only got room for 8 weeks in the flower room.

Oh, my mistake, I didn't see you had two 600s. That being the case the 400 should stay in veg to help it keep up with your flowering room's needs. :smoke:

If it doesn't finish in 8, it'll be 9 or 10 at the most. It won't delay your harvest that much, and you can reduce the numbers you put in each week just a couple so you have room for an extra generation.. it's all about working the bugs out as you go. :joint: The more you do it the better you get at it, you learn what to plan for, etc... I'm still learning a lot too!

About your strains; I've never grown or personally known anyone who grows them so I can't speak for how well they can produce. If you're able to order seeds you might try hash plant or some of the crosses it's part of. I've heard it is an extremely heavy yielder with about an 8 week flowering time. Check out NorthernFarmer's HP Stadium topic and you'll see a great example of how well it produces... i haven't had a chance to try it yet either.

It is looking like the juicyfruit strain that I have got, will be good for sogging. I got two that are in flowering now and they have a bigger main cola when compared to the hawaiin skunk.
