Your buddy is on to something, the same thing is happening to me, I firmly believe the added spectrums just completely saturate the plants with useable light. They seem to grow out, not up.Very nice LED grow OP. I've always been interested in LEDs, friend of mine combined 2 LEDs to his HPS garden and I guess with all the spectrums theyre going nuts and getting ncie and thick...
That's the $64,000 question. I'll replace my HPSs the day someone shows objectively that grams/watt is worthwhile.Interesting, keep us posted on the power consumed vs. yield.
Not here it isnt.Theres no doubt hps is the better option, if you have that option-stick with it by all means. It's not about replacing an hps system, its about providing the urban dwellers that live in small apartments, like me, a viable option for providing themselves with a steady supply of dank. Cfl's didnt cut it for me- the higher wattage ones 250-150w get a little too warm for me.Makes me feel uncomfortable when I leave the apartment. This summer, I learned from last summer, is going to be all led. It's either that or hit the ave for nicks, and 20's.Even dealers I've grown up with are charging 20 bucks a gram for the good shit! Dog eat dog in the city I guess. But until I get that big piece of property on the outskirts of town, I'll continue on with the led option. peaceThat's the $64,000 question. two in each tent - the veg tent is 100% led-clones vegging away.Couple himalaya golds-the ufo's-1-630nm-1-660nm-2 45w glow-panels( the 45 watters with the .5's work great for side lighting) the flowering tent has a exhaust fan vented 150w hps-1-tri band spectrum ufo(illuminator) and 1-660nm all red flowering ufo-1 50w 660nm red .5w diode panel-36w-cool + warm white 1w diode cree leds. I like to mix and match ( usually depending on weather temp) between the 2 tents.By summer I'm100% led-1 tent purely for mothers and clones-1 tent for flowering properly rooted clones. Really it looks more and more like I'll be switching to this method permanently.Good to see another led grower. peacehave you looked at the grow panel pro? we currently are running it with 9 budding plants underneath, coming along nicely... the gro panel pro is 300watts of led, 300 1 watt led bulbs... how many ufos u got in there?
thank you, but I gotta tell ya these things are coming way down in price. The ufo I bought 4 months ago for 400US you can get from China Factory- they're all made in China- for 200US shipping included. peace
And thats the ticket man, the combo of the 2 is the only way to go.I'd imagine even a very small hps 70w and I think they go smaller-would fill out those misunderstood "wasted" wavelengths put out by an hps.Dont get me wrong, I was still very happy with the results of the pure led grow, but adding a low wattage hps (I"m starting to think more and more about cfl's now that summers coming) really got me the results I was looking for.I think very soon your going to see commercially available units with many spectrums, as this science progresses we'll probably understand more about alot of things pertaining to our craft. Many spectrums, combined in the proper ratios, will be the future.Red and blue work very well for veg-with alittle white led the results increase dramatically.Advances are happening very quickly now, stay tuned. peaceIf u rly wanna grow with LED's u'll have to wait some years more.
At the moment a mix between HPS and LED's would be the best (my opinion)
since the LED's produce alot of resins but not as much buds as HPS.

Yes my ufos(4 all together) are 90w.Keep watching e bay auctions. But the best ufo I have is also the priciest-369US. Thats the illuminator- the added orange really makes a difference.looks too be probly the same ones maybe i just looked at?...are yours 90 w?...these ones are just under $300 AU$...free postage from china....bit pricey for me still i think ....think i will have to as planned get a couple 100w cfl globes...im thinking getting both ...grow and flower... for wattage and spectrum .HH. =]-~
