changing from 12/12 back to veg will stress your plants and greatly slow down any growth. You could wait until your plant is tall enough to top, then take that cutting and put it under 12/12. I've read you don't even need roots to SEX cuttings but i can't be sure. SEARCH

whups.. fucked up first post lol

You certainly will need roots to flower cuttings.

If you are growing from seed, wait till your plant get to at least 3-4 nodes (or at least 6 inchs high) before you flip to 12/12.

at around 6-10 days, whenever they have enough branch to take cuts, you should take a couple of clones from each plant. make sure to label them properly.

then you can pull your males, pull your corresponding male clones. At harvest time you will have a nice copy of each plant and can select whichever you prefer to keep (if any or all)

peace

you could flip under fluoros, they will show sex, but I would put them under whatever you are planning to flower under..

well, we have limited space in a closet, with 18 sproutlings, sum we'll pull due to not being strong, so we'll have less, but we dont have room in the closet for all of the rest to get big before we put them outdoor for theyr perm spot around early may ish... the whole cloning idea makes sense, but we dont have room or lites for that.

how long does it take til you can tell sex by appearance of plant?

just talked to the friend who gave me the seeds, he crossed sour d x cheese, and hes grown em. he just waits til there about 6-8 inches and then switches to 12/12 for a few days till pystils are visible then switches back to veg lite cycle and he says its bueno. plus we have all outdoor season to let them bounce back and growwwwwww, they'll have enuff time...

For many, many years i've been sexing in veg looking at preflowers with a 7Xeyelupe and have never, never had any strain not show sex before 28 days of 20/4 light cycle. Most show sex by week 3 of veg (day 21 of seed pop). The discussions about going to 12/12 and pulling cuts to sex, don't make sense. I'm sexing my plants before i'd start taking cuts. Search around, i've been preaching this for years on several forums, and i'm not alone.

Put some in peat or coir pucks, stick them in a little box with a CFL and 12/12 them right from the go. Just don't use much light or they will die very quickly. Keep them under a humidity dome. It's a way to test the gender if you're really that desperate. For what it's worth I just wait and see. If they're not showing gender yet, they're not eager to flower yet. Why not wait until they are more mature? Is time constraint an issue here?

yeah, well in a few weeks we have to put em outside, and the spot we're hardening em off is in a friends back yard, and he feels sketched about putting 18 potted plants in his parents back yard for a week, then we'll put em at the legit final spot, and also we dont wanna have to keep a bunch alive and provide them soil and stuff and find out later there male. also we want to put them in 45 gal smart bags and in the ground as soon as possible probably by the second week of may...

how long til you can tell theyre sex by allowing them to just grow.. cause sum ppl say it could take 8 weeks-flowering to see the plants signs of sex..?

I'm with luvtogrow,I havent had a seedplant in years I havent been able to sex in veg with a good magnifying glass. If you must pull a cut to sex it throw it under a 14 dark 10 light photoperiod. It doesnt need to root to show sex and normally knocks a few days off the regular 12/12 photoperiod.Anyone can learn to sex in veg though, anyone. You're just not going to do it early without a loupe or magnifying glass

You should never put plants on someone else's property without permission. They could have their property seized over it, seriously. Not cool. Maybe you should wait until your situation is more ideal.

well it'll more like be 12 1 ft plants in my friends acre back yard who has them currently in his closet, whos idea was to put it in his back yard, considering last year he grew a plant in the back yard... it'll be cool.
or we'll skip his back yard and harden em off on my 10 acre yard... but my house is farther away and im not there everyday so it would jus be more ideal in his back yard to harden off for like 5 days, since theyre already at his house.
but yup.
