What's new

Need some help.... i have made a boo boo

So after getting everything ready to grow in the outdoors... i mean EVERYTHING (3 Months..easily) Time to germ the seeds. I am running 2 strains, so i soak in distilled water for 48 hours, they all crack... NICE

Move them to moist paper towels, the tails grow, i put them all in seed starting jiffy tray. I also mind you got a plant bulb instead of the normal fluro one.. After 24 hours in the light, i come back to the location and the light is way too hot........
The dirts dry, real dry, and i started to scream

i have germed 10 times indoors before so no suprises...

I got a fan going and i just watered them mon and 48 hours later the soil is still moist.

So they have been in soil 72 hours and none of the girls have popped out yet..

I might just be paranoid. or maybe they are dead... But how long till they pop out refresh my memory.. I remember it being about 2-3days..

I'd say average is around 3-6 days. If they haven't came up within 10 days they probably aren't going to do anything. I recently planted some satori's and 2 of them came up within 4 days but my other one had not. So on day 5 i decided i'd gently remove the top soil to get a peek and sure enough it had a small tap root growing so I know it's going to come up, she's just taking a little longer.
If you really think you may of fried them then i'd try and check just one of them and see what's going on. (Just be easy)

I like to plant my seeds just after they crack and the root tip is showing.

Also I dont like to plant them too deep. Because they may have trouble reaching above the soil and finding light if they are too deep.

When I have done that before I learned, I uncovered some of the soil carefully until the leaf was showing. They may look yellow because they are too deep and no light. But after a bit Photosynthesis will start and they will turn green and start to grow.

2-3 days is right jjp. We've all done it, some of us more than once!. Its hard to say, but if they arent up by friday, i would eeny meeny miney mo and take one apart to see whats happening. Don't wait too long, in 3 days a small seed is undectable. Lets hope they come up.

I hope you wont mind me adding a second to Xare's method. Its my experience that fiddling with tails = runts and no shows. Just as soon as i can see the tip through the crack, point down in the dirt it goes.

You'll just have to forgive me, i cant help myself , its a personal flaw i guess, but toss that paper towel method. Buy a small "Cello" brand cleaning sponge, (cellulose), saw the sponge in half the flat way and then use the 2 finished surfaces and their litlle pockets to place the seeds and then sandwhich them between the 2 pieces. Add 1 tablespoon of water to each piece and place the sandwhich in a small tupperware container so they dont dry out. This will provide the proper amount of moisture and wont risk drowing the seeds. Seeds in nature that fall into puddles die.

As soon as the shell cracks, sink um point down.

sorry.

I know a lot of people like the paper towel or some other germination trick, but I don't understand it. I always just put mine in seedling mix, water, and they come up. No need to fool with transplanting and taking a chance on bunging up the roots. Just my 0.02.

I'm with SbS ... I only take the soaking (for 24 not 48) and warming measures for seeds that are Known to be hard to germinate (ie Old or from Federations Romulan and hybrids of. The Feds Rom I have has a Tough Tough akene) and I hate to say this ... the dry medium might have terminated the tap roots and the sprouts with them ...

thanks scar

Being too deep saved them from the dry out?? Big ups to you and the babies (as Herb changes from a cheap suit to shorts and a wife beater) and I was dressing for a funeral ...
