wow very, very impressive, bushmasta. These are really big!

It's also the morel season over here but I haven't found any yet. One year, I found some right at my doorstep.

Don't forget that morels are toxic raw and need to be cooked for at least 15-20 minutes.

Enjoy them!

Hey guys didn't know morels were toxic fresh so good thing I haven't eaten any yet. I dried what I kept for myself but I am sure there will be more freshies soon. I will prob saute them with some garlic, butter, and maybe some chives to add to some homemade fettucini with grilled chicken. I am making myself hungry talking about it! The morels are all in this area I found 2.5 lbs at one spot and have found 3 or 4 more each in different locations less than a mile away. I just gotta run up on some more patches like the first I found. I have been out scouting for outdoor mj plots and have now started digging so I am sure I will run into more. Although I will say it is pretty hard looking for certain trees which morel mycelium lives with, looking for morels sticking out, and watching out for snakes at the same time.

I didnt know that either, but technically most of the shrooms I eat are considered a little toxic if you know what I mean.

I don't care for uncooked mushrooms anyway.
You shouldn't eat ANY mushrooms raw as they are technically classified as 'sickening' in that state regardless of strain from what I understand. Sickening does not mean toxic in a classical sense cause they won't kill you.

The morels have not started popping here yet and don't know about looking on older growth areas of forest cause I was taught to look where areas have recently been logged or burned...basically disturbed and I do not find them on 'virgin' ground. Morels grow like a mini forest in areas like this and the patches fade away over the years as the ground 'heals'. My buddy told me that morels start to fruit when 'the new oak leaves are as big as mouse ears'. I look for King Boletes in the old growth spots.

Morels are without a doubt my favorite mushroom.

Well I live on the east coast and I found morels 3 days in a row. I am by far an expert at hunting but morels have a companionship with roots of certain trees. I look at fallen down trees or certain living trees. Morels are the most mysterious mushroom cause mycologist still have not figured out what causes morels to fruit. Some have the theory that once a tree dies or is cut down it stops taking up nutrients and the mycelium picks up the nutes and causes the fruiting of morels. Most hunters devote their lives to finding morels and learning about them because of their mystery.

Bullshit regarding morels where I live...and theory is right cause they're clueless IME. Sorry bro but live in the Mt. Shasta (which is TRUE NorCal...LOL) area at about 4000' and where you wanna look is where it has recently been logged, burned...and basically the soil has been disturbed...like where they 'cleared' a site to build a new home the previous season. I also like looking in regularly landscaped sites but not veggie gardens if that makes any sense.

Wanna add the pics you are showing is not the strain I see around here.

Dude...I had one of my weirdest experiences when looking for morels. A mycologist friend taught me how to hunt local wild mushrooms and that year found like 5. I was determined the next year to find some and looked and looked and then dreamt about em and the next day found a bunch. They were laughing and giggling...lol. Got like 50 lbs that year.

Dried ones are great if you rehydrate them in half and half then fry em up...yummy. They should start popping once it warms up after this cold snap.
