how much water to flash coco before using ?

hi everybody,

i bought compressed coco peat but it is not good quality.the coco has residue of cement ,swab,sand.. etc.
it is very bad quality.

i flushed with 19 gal water, and coco is 3 gallon.

i think it was cleaned now,but i am not sure.

is 12 gallon water enough to wash ?

PS:it is only coco i could find.

Generally, if you dont have a meter to gauge your ppm's of the runnoff water, you can usually just flush untill the runnoff is clear, with no color leached from the coco in it.

I flushed at about a 4 to 1 gallon ratio. 4 gallons of water for every gallon of coco. I used distilled water PH'd to 5.8 and the initial run off was 7.2. It took four gallons for my run off to get to 5.8

ph of run-off is 6- 6,5 .

Dude, throw that shit away and go buy quality coco. Unless you want to have endless problems.
If i ever opened a bag of coco and saw that shit in there (cement?!?!) i'd go back to where i bought it and dump it on the floor.
If you cant buy any locally then order some on-line.

I second that.

There are plenty of online shops that will sell you high quality coco at good prices.

If you've got no way of getting a higher quality coco then I would quite literally hand pick all the crap out of the low quality stuff, even if it took hours. Sometimes you just have to use a little elbow grease and make something work.

Then flush the crap out of it.

Hope that helps.

Thres no RULE for flushing coco coir..as the quality varies ALOT..some have more salt..some more sodium,etc..but yes, flsuh flush flush as much as you can with HOT WATER...you will notice that the runoff at first is very brown, and mruky looking..flush it until all the runoff is crystal clear..and even then, keep flushing..

I measure the EC of the water I'm flushing it with in and out... when they're equal (0.6 in my case) I stop

Really??? That sounds horrible for the roots.....But I haven't ever heard much talk about it. Maybe warm water, but I would doubt that any hot(or the "hottest" lmao) water is good water...You could get root rot....Burn the roots? Sounds a little iffy. EDIT-NVM! lol

the coco has residue of cement ,swab,sand.. etc.
lol I just read that^^ if that is the only coco you have available I wouldn't bother.Cement??? swab of what?!?!? sand??? NO GOOD! You can't flush that shit out anyways lol. If it were a nutrient, chemical, organic, salts, yada yada, then you could flush that stuff out. By you would have to separate the sand from the cement from the SWAB???? If you had cement in you coco couldn't it harden when you water it?? lol

he means before use mate... not a root in sight. he just needs to clean it up before planting anything in it. hot water is good as it dissolves the salt and allows it to be carried away on the run off

LOL I'm not sure about flushing swabs out of my coco either though

lol for sure. I must have had a high moment ;) I was honestly about to correct you too, saying I think he's talking about flushing with no plants......Then I would have contradicted myself even further. lol, I am gonna leave before I dig the hole deeper. Sorry guys hope that gave ya a laugh haha.
