Yeah, I think quality cannabis seeds may be the best investment on the planet!

Have fun with those my brother!

too many people buy into the marketing/bandwagon concerning strains >$50. Cannabis quality is just like everything else - nature vs. nurture. 50% genetics/50% environment. Grow out a nice girl from some brick mexican sativa and treat her right and she'll be just as potent as that name-brand garbage you just paid $30 a seed for.
It's all about image and marketing. I see the majority of these people buying packs of seeds for $200+ are also posting "hi this is my first grow," suggesting they're just buying into the hype of so and so's "new never before seen state of the art strain." Which in 6 months becomes a common cutting in just about every veg room. And then it's on to the next "never before seen, as seen on TV, limited time only" strain.
I know people who've been working on their own strains for years, and it's always just as good as any "new and improved, never before seen on TV" strain.

amen to that stinky.
We can also look at it this way - the people selling and buying packs of beans for $150, $250, even $350 are complying with cannabis prohibition. As we (or most of us) know, the fight against cannabis prohibition is all about "over-growing" - making it readily available to everyone so that it becomes a grass-roots type deal. This means getting strains to everyone at near-free prices (a lot of times just plain free). Take for instance Gypsies freebies - this is giving the masses free seed to over-grow and fight prohibition.
Buy $300 packs of seeds and you're contributing to prohibition - you're saying "I agree with the high price of these seeds because the government says its illegal." Face it - if it wasn't illegal you wouldn't spend $300 on 10 seeds. You'd just find some strains for $20 a pack and find some nice moms. The people who have this "buy the $20 breeder pack instead" mentality are truly "over-growing" and basically do not recognize cannabis prohibition as a legitimate/legally binding.

Quality genetics are rare breed. To say that a well grown brick weed plant is comparable to a strain that some one has toiled over for many years is preposterous. The genetic make up of a plant makes it so that plant can only be as good as can get it, human intervention is the good and the bad in this case.

To act like you know what it takes to spent years making a masterpiece work and disregard it, shows your greenness and overall unintelligence of the matter. You say you know people who have worked for years, and theirs is nothing special. But i figure, like most, your friends are people that share the same ideals. So maybe dude grew out some bagweed and crossed it with other bagseed. Well then of course it will be bland. i don't know and don't claim to. The best genetics that I've come across are horded. A lot of the best doesn't make it to the commercial weed that would be in a brick. It's head stash stuff that doesn't produce much. takes way too long, and is complicated to grow, but very much worth it.

I'm currently working on a strain that I have never seen a cross of with the two best plants in my farm and I wouldn't sell ten seeds for $1000. I'd give them to another breeder though who has the same ideas and thought of making the best possibly genetics possible.

Sorry for the rant, you are welcome for the information. Good luck regardless.

a strain that some one has toiled over for many years
Sorry, but "toiling" does not necessarily mean "improving." Take Lowryder for example - that was "toiled with over many years" - and the smoke is mediocre.

EVERY breeder has "the best strain." It's personal preference. People such as yourself are basing your "personal preference" on what the hype and ads tell you. And you're unwillingness to spread the good genes to the masses means you are not interested in over-growing cannabis prohibition. You're saying "well cannabis is ILLEGAL MAN! And this strain is good, so I'd better keep it on the DL." It's just contributing to this false hope and the advertising hype. Exactly what I think Gypsy is fighting against - he's doing the opposite - making good genes available to everyone, regardless of how much money they have to spend.
