How often do you guys water your plants?

The last time I tried my hand at growing outdoors, I put a fresh clone out sometime in the peak of summer. A week later I went to check on it and it was totally crispy... now recently i put some non-MJ plants outdoors, and its probably around the beginning of summer right now.. even though I watered them profusely every 3 days or so, I find them shrivelled up and drying. Indoors I probably watered once a week and never had any problems, so obviously I must be underestimating the frequency that outdoors plants need to be watered. So how often do you guys water your plants in your outdoor spots?

well , what climate do you have??

Do you move your plants directly from indoors under a weak light to outdoors under the ful sun?? this also can make plants crispy

well, normally indoors, I will put them near the front window so they get a couple hours of sunlight per day.. although thats a good point, maybe I forgot to harden them off... does this also apply to weed grown outdoors from seed, though?

no if grown from seed outdoor or before a window it's no prob , but for young ones who are used to TL or fluoro , the sun can be a bitch

Just put your plants outside in the evening and then the first day put them in the shade in the evening put them on a spot where there will be full sun. When the sun comes up in the morning the plant will gradually get used to the more and more intense light

Outside it's hard to tell, you'll just have to check them more frequently. It all depends on the soil, the weather and the microclimate. So there's probably no way to tell how often one should water I guess.

Last summer I had plants that almost dried out when I didn't visit them for a few days. A couple of weeks later they almost drowned due to heavy rainfalls.

Try using water retaining crystals and laying some mulch down to help with evaporation, also planting out earlier this year might help.....

I start my plants under flouros and put them outside in early June when danger of frost has passed. I wait until two or more days of shower and cloud are forecast. By the time a fully sunny day arrives they have acclimatized and will not burn when the sun hits them.

Oldtoker has the hardening recipe, cloudy days. But size is relevant: a newly rooted clone or a young plant needs a little help. 1' tall can handle a bit more.

Watering depends on a number of factors: temps, wind, rainfall, soil condition, size of the plant. It sounds like you may have had a combination of problems that led to disappointment.

how small are they when you put them out? i let mine get at least 6 inches tall before they go out. then i put them in my garden between tomato plants for a week. i've not once had a plant die on me.

I grow in 12 gallon pots and i have to water every 2-3 days. I live in socal and the weather has been decent but dry.

I have hot dry weather where I am at. Even in the spring it can get above 90 with very low humidity. I have found with new starts and clone less water more often like every other day just to be safe beacause I live far away I don't get there sometimes but every 2-3 weeks and if it gets hot your screwed as you have found out. Now once they get some feet under them I give them more but less often. Put some good mulch around them and twice a week works for me, and when I am physically there I reall douse them good. After the middle of June it's pretty much 100 every day with 20 % humidity durring the day. Sounds like it's hot where your at too.
