What's new

sometimes you just need to dry things out quick

Ive been recently testing new drying methods aside from the good ol hang and dry method

Ive found that one can dry out buds quite quickly and retain most of the potency
quickly being a few days instead of weeks (and no i don't think this is better than slow drying, especially if the bud isn't flushed all the way)

days 1 and 2
cut and trim
lay buds out on racks for the next 36 to 48 hours

day 3
put racks into dehydrator at lowest setting possible (should be under 100 deg f)
run a timer to the dehydrator for 2 hour intervals on and 1 hour off

the off time lets the buds release more moisture from the inside to the outside of it, and the confined space of the dehydrator allows for the humidity to rise enough to make this work

once the dehydrator kicks back on, you get to remove that little bit more moisture

this method does a lot less damage than running them straight through on the dehydrator

after the first 18 to 24 hours of dehydrating, leave the machine off overnight to really allow time to draw out that last moisture

then resume the next day, and the buds should be done within a few hours

you need to be careful not to over dry them that second day of drying, especially if you want a little moisture in your bud

it is surprising how quickly they're done and how the potency remains

how do they turn out smelling with this method?? and taste? i would like to try this but don`t wanna ruin either of those virtues...

ive used a food dehydrator before and it works overnight. although many claim that "flash" drying reduces potency and taste.

as long as it gets you stoned, and can be shipped off, im all for it.

Taste and smell are comparable to the same stuff dried out normally. Just make sure the bud is well flushed and to take your time doing it. I know it sounds counterproductive to take your time with a "fast" drying technique, but it's still a heck of a lot faster than traditional drying.

typical dehydration (just running the machine till dry) is terrible in taste and potency but its fast

this loses some speed but retains most of, but not all of, the good qualities of the bud

*this this shouldn't be thought of as a replacement for traditional drying

if you have a gas oven, try sticking a sample cola in there for about 24 hours.

depending on your oven of course, things should stay around 90 degrees.

thats how i do it when i get impatient.

Yes potency remains, but flavor is compromised a bit as well as harshness, the chlorophyll and terpenoids don't have a chance to synthesize when dried so quickly. The bud also deteriorates faster this way I've found. Humid areas need a bit of help with keeping the environment dry while drying, but what you said doesn't bring out the best in the bud IMO. The bud sure looks nice tho, once dehydrated!

Imagine a greenish banana, you can dehydrate it and make banana chips that are crispy yet a bit on the saltier side kinda bland, but if you ripen them first, the chips will turn out really nice and sweet. And yes, the potency does not vanish, this is true. I knew aguy who would dehydrate his buds in a dessicator, and they looked great, but the flavor was not there..
