IYO(Does Fox Farms Suck)?

Does Fox Farms suck in your opinion. This whole boards and others seem to think it's gods gift but really, some experts I've talked to said it's crap. The best soil you'll get is home made. Your opinions

i'd love to know why some ''experts'' say it is crap, and why you would post that without giving a reason why?

it's just another useful tool in my arsenal. I get great results. nothing is end all be all complete gods gift, though many make it seem like that, but you cannot argue easily obtained GREAT results.

If you are talikng about their soil,

IMO, Fox Farms is great.
Can you make a better homemade soil? Sure, somebody can and probably does. But I have no interest in buying bags of animal shit from different countries and trying to find a combo that works well.
FOR ME, I'd much rather pay 15$ for a bag of goodness that I know will work the same everytime. Your experiences may be different.

I also like their nutes and additives. I wouldn't mind trying some new nutrients, but when something works for you, why mess with it?

Either way, I'd like to hear from other people who have used FFOF in the past and later found something better.

Truth be told, its great! Don't listen to any "expert" who says a product isn't good, when it has performed excellently for thousands of customers. Its not the tools, its the grower. IMO

I use FFOF and FFLW mixed with perlite and worm castings.. works great! I also use the big 3 liquid nutes they make.. I have no complaints..

I don't use their soil, but I have used some of their amendments. I've never seen anyone with something bad to say who wasn't doing something wrong. Sure, they might be pricey, but that's because it's some of the best dirt out there. I'm sure it took years to perfect their mixes.

I had no issues w/their soil up until I bought a bag that tried to kill every plant I put in it... beans, cuts... no matter, they all just wanted to keel over regardless... FFhappy frog btw...
Coco coir and PBP now w/o any issues what so ever...

Your mileage may vary..... G'luck.

i love fox farm for their simplicity. Grab a bag and grow. Sometimes when i do smaller grows or just need a bit it's easier to just grab the bag from the shelf than mixing up stuff and getting your hands dirty, ya know?
Of course, i prefer making my own soil, since there is nothing in this fox farm soil that i can't mix myself and save a bunch. But it's okay for convenience. Also if i mix my own soil i have a better choice of what goes into the soil. I can exactly control the composition and consistency of the soil, and with a wide variety of organic amendments (Zeolite, Alfalfa Pellets, Gypsium, Rock Phosphate, Kelp Meal, Guanos, Greensand Worm Castings etc) i can custom fit my soil to my needs.

I would not say it "sucks". It's good for beginners that don't want to buy/read a lot of different stuff and experiment. It's overpriced for sure, but if you don't like it then don't buy it.

whoever says it crap doesnt know what there talking about. plain and simple. i use the light warrior agroponic stuff to mix with the happy frog and its hands down the best soil ive ever used and will continue to use as long as i grow in soil. thats just my opinion. and i have nice plants to back it up. the light warrior just makes the roots go crazy..

I don't think FF sucks. I think their outrageous prices suck. No need to waste money on organics.

Buy it only once and re-use it forever. I've used the same FFOF for 4 years (adding back amendments of course) and its quite nice, outside of the original cost. Can't speak for their nutes and such, but i'm organic and only use simple ingredients. I suppose its all relative to how you use what you have...

You pay for convenience. For the same soil per (2) 1.8cuft bags it would cost ~the same to mix your own (of the same quality). If you will ever use more than 2 bags of dirt, it is much more cost effective to make to make your own. If you are adding and recycling, FFOF is a very expensive 'base', IMO.
$20/bag of FFOF x 2 = $40

(per bag)
$9 bag of promix
$2.50 for dolomite
$2.50 for an N source (inc castings)
$5.00 for P and K.
$1.00 to mix.

$20 a bag.

But start with $30 worth of bricked coco or a bale of promix/peat, and you will get WAAAAYY more for the money.

Here is $120 worth of soil (~6 bags of ffof). Not pictured, the 40lb bag of AG lime, and the 30lb bag of castings. What is pictured was $104 with tax.

Fox farms is pretty cheap here at around 12 to 15 a bag. Still not as cheap as maricle grow tho.

bags are 13 at the nurseries, 20 at the hydro shops...

home made im sure can be better, im an outdoor man but dont have too much experience composting/mixing my own soils. so im happy to pay for a bag of dirt with a label that tells me it has what i need. mix wOF with LW and im set. 200 for outdoor soil but the amount of pot i produce more then pays for the dirt.

I posted this a few days ago in another thread of the same nature...

Well, I guess I'm about to piss on the Fox Farm parade.

I transplanted into FFOF soil during my second week of veg and it wreaked havoc on my plants.

This is a leaf on one of my Satori plants after two weeks in the FFOF soil. My other plants (Ice, Hashplant, Kalichakra) were also burned to a lesser degree.

At the time I was feeding with 1 tsp Cal-Mag and 1 tsp Liquid Karma per gallon of water. It has been suggested that I received a bad bag of soil, which seems like the most logical explanation, as I've been using Cal-Mag and LK on previous grows in the same amounts without any trouble.

It seemed a like a nice soil, but I won't risk my grow to it again. Just think, I paid an extra $10 just to burn my plants. I could've burnt them myself for much less...

I've used FF OF fer 10 years and I have never burned anything in it. This includes seedlings as well as clones. I jus add perlite and go! ..... not sure why some one would only feed with calmag and LK? but it's askin fer trouble. You need ta use balanced nutes if ya want happy plants. My :2cents: Take care... Because FFOF already has nutes in it.
