Which fan is quieter?

Say I was to compare 2 inline fans from the same manufacturer (Vortex, Can, w/e). A 170 cfm at full speed or a 450 cfm at half speed, which would be quieter?

Assuming both were ducted in similar fashions and had appropriately sized carbon scrubbers attached.

Compare each one's dBA rating. The lower the quieter. I believe the 172cfm vortex is 49 dBA.

I'd get the 449 if space availability isn't an issue. With the 449 you can speed control it with a Variac and cut the sound by half, yet still get more output than the 172.

Space isnt as much of an issue as noise, so I guess I'll end up getting the 6". Thanks for your input.

ime, elicent fans are much quieter than vortex fans
