US House and Senate are about (in a week and a half) to vote on bill that will OUTLAW ORGANIC FARMING (bill HR 875). There is an enormous rush to get this into law within the next 2 weeks before people realize what is happening.

Main backer and lobbyist is Monsanto - chemical and genetic engineering giant corporation (and Cargill, ADM, and about 35 other related agri-giants). This bill will require organic farms to use specific fertilizers and poisonous insect sprays dictated by a newly formed agency to "make sure there is no danger to the public food supply". This will include backyard gardens that grow food only for a family and not for sales.

If this passes then NO more heirloom clean seeds but only Monsanto genetically altered seeds that are now showing up with unexpected diseases in humans.

Here's a link that gives you an idea how this can be happening:

To read the bill, you can go to http://thomas.loc.gov and enter HR875 in the search box after selecting "Bill Number".option under the search box.

For getting the scoop by video, here are a couple more links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epXNJNjYBvw&feature=related

The name on this outrageous food plan is Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 (bill HR 875).

THIS IS REAL, FOLKS! PASS THIS ALONG TO ALL CONCERNED ON YOUR MAILING LISTS & CALL YOUR SENATE REPRESENTETIVES TODAY! Get on that phone and burn up the wires. Get anyone else you can to do the same thing. The House and Senate WILL pass this if they are not massively threatened with loss of their position.... They only fear your voice and your vote.

The best thing to do is go to www.house.gov/writerep all you have to do is put in your zip and it will give you your congressperson and how to get in touch with them. When you call their office someone will answer the phone, just tell them (politely) that you are calling to express your views on HR 875. Tell them your views, they'll take your name and address and pass your comments along to the congressperson. Good luck! Even if it passes, I don't really see how they would outlaw organic farming. How would they be able to enforce that? Not possible IMO. I mean they can pass it, but it will have no teeth.

how can "the government" even think about such laws??

people of America resist to them fuckers!

I suggest a book by F. William Engdahl : "Seeds of Destruction - The Hidden Agenda of Genetic Manipulation"

"This skillfully researched book focuses on how a small socio-political
American elite seeks to establish control over the very basis of human survival: the provision of our daily bread. "Control the food and you
control the people."

This is no ordinary book about the perils of GMO. Engdahl takes the reader inside the corridors of power, into the backrooms of the science labs, behind closed doors in the corporate boardrooms.

The author cogently reveals a diabolical World of profit-driven political intrigue, government corruption and coercion, where genetic manipulation and the patenting of life forms are used to gain worldwide control over
food production. If the book often reads as a crime story, that should
come as no surprise. For that is what it is.

Engdahl's carefully argued critique goes far beyond the familiar controversies surrounding the practice of genetic modification as a
scientific technique. The book is an eye-opener, a must-read for all
those committed to the causes of social justice and World peace."

all the best

That IS some scary shit !!

But this makes so much sense now because it falls in line with the Codex Alimentarius (World Food Code) which comes into effect on 31st Dec 2009.

1) Started in 1962 by UN, Imposed by WTO Sanctions

Codex Alimentarius was created in 1962 as a trade Commission by the UN to control the international trade of food. Its initial intentions may have been altruistic but it has been taken over by corporate interests, most notably the pharmaceutical, pesticide, biotechnology and chemical industries.

Codex Alimentarius is backed up by the crippling trade sanctions of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Any non Codex-compliant nation would face huge economic punishment since they would automatically lose in any food-trade dispute with a Codex compliant country.

2) “Nutrients are Toxins” Is Junk Science

Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) has two committees which impact nutrition.

One of them, the “Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses” (CCNFSDU), is chaired by Dr. Rolf Grossklaus, a physician who believes that nutrition has no role in health. This is the “top-guy” for Codex nutritional policy, and he has stated that “nutrition is not relevant to health”.

As unbelievable as it may sound, Dr. Grossklaus actually declared nutrients to be toxins in 1994 and instituted the use of toxicology (Risk Assessment) to prevent nutrients from having any impact on humans who take supplements! It is worth mentioning that Dr. Grossklaus happens to own the Risk Assessment company advising CCNFSDU and Codex on this issue. This company makes money when its toxicology services are used for the “assessment” of nutrients. Here in the U.S. we call that a “conflict of interest”.

Codex is made up of thousands of standards and guidelines. One of them, the Vitamin and Mineral Guideline (VMG), is designed to permit only ultra low doses of vitamins and minerals (and make clinically effective nutrients illegal). How can the VMG restrict dosages of vitamins and minerals? By using Risk Assessment (toxicology) to assess nutrients.

While Risk Assessment is a legitimate science (it is a branch of toxicology), it is the wrong science for assessing nutrients! In fact, in this context, it is actually junk science. Biochemistry, the science of life processes, is the correct science for assessing nutrients. Codex Alimentarius treats nutrients as toxins, which is literally insane.

Nutrients are not toxins - they are essential for life.

No matter what Codex Alimentarius officials say to convince you that Risk Assessment is a “science-based” approach to nutrients, it is not.

And it is worth repeating that Dr. Grossklaus, the head of Codex Alimentarius, owns the Risk Assessment company advising CCNFSDU and Codex on the “benefit” of using Risk Assessment to assess nutrients.
Codex mandates the use of Monsanto's recombinant bovine growth hormone in every dairy cow on earth (WTO members / signatories).

If you live in a country that is a member of the WTO, (there are over 170 active member countries involved), then things are only going to get worse.

here is a summary of the Codex....

and a Conference on the Codex with Dr Rima Laibow

If we think the International Cannabis Laws are ridiculous, then wait till they implement this Codex Alimentarius. :fsu:

This is total BS, organic is the healthiest way to go if you can affordto purchase or grow it. No chemicals on or IN your food. As for GMO they are NECESSARY. Do you know how many ppl accross the world rely on them? Think about 3rd world countries that can now harvest more bountiful crops and feed more ppl. Most ppl think GMO is some freaky science experiment when it's alot like breeding cannabis. Take 2 phenotypes from the same genotype and breed them together based on what the needs are. Or borrow traits from other fruits or veg. I can't believe ppl even bother to try and say that some GMO foods are crossed with animal traits ,etc.. I guess alot of ppl are forgetting basic science and cell structures. Sure maybe in north America we don't need them as much but we have to think of the world as well here ppl. It has been proven that without GMO WAY more ppl would be dying of hunger on a daily basis. IMO most of us have No issues in worrying about eating on a day to day basis or whether our family, community, etc will either. So until we are, we should let the ppl who can benefit from GMO do so. I'm definitely NOT in accordance with this no organics shit though. As for this comment “nutrition is not relevant to health” I am absolutely dumbfounded that someone in that industry has the NERVE to think that we as a society are so dumb that we're gonna buy into this horseshit. Yet another pompous asshole comes out of the woodwork. I'm willing to wager everything i own that this douche is so far outta shape it's ridiculous. As far as I'm concerned he's just another salesman and not even remotely close to anything resembling a Dr. :2cents:

u have to be joking...those loonies are leading the charge!! these types of controls over the people are the direct result of liberalism at the helm. you can call boxer, feinssssstein, pelosi, obama, shumer, and the rest till your blue in the face... the R's arent much better...

these types of "general safety" bills are the empowerment bills for those who seek to control. the more public outcry for "safer conditions" or "we need a law for safer....." the more power in these peoples hands, to the detriment of our rights and freedoms. this government will continue to slice away chunks of your flesh in the name of "safety and public good", until you either stop them, or they cut an artery... take your pick

one day soon we will have a law requiring everyone to wear a "life helmet"...the backers of the bill will be "Life Helmet co." our gubment will empower the nutjob police to enforce the law by hitting everyone without a helmet...in the head... in the name of safety

The sky ain't falling. i just wasted way too much time reading that mind numbing bill and I have absolutely no idea how you came up with the conclusion that it outlaws organic farming.

I dont know whats going on with this latest thing, but Monsanto has to be one of the nastiest corporations ever.

wikipedia/ said:
Other major products have included the herbicides 2,4,5-T, DDT, and Agent Orange used primarily during the Vietnam War as a deforestation agent (and later proven to be highly carcinogenic to any who come into contact with the solution), the excitotoxin aspartame (NutraSweet), bovine somatotropin (bovine growth hormone (BST), and PCBs

The company spent $8,831,120 for lobbying in 2008.

In India

Monsanto has had a controversial history in India, starting with the accusations of terminator genes in its seed. There were demonstrations against the company. Later, its GM cotton seed was the subject of NGO agitation because of its higher cost. The company also faces increasing "piracy" of seed in India, with local farmers creating their own varieties.[61][62] In 2003 Brazil followed suit with a similar protest in Goias.[63]

Child labor

A subsidiary of Monsanto has been accused of employing child labour in the manufacture of cotton-seeds in India. The work involves handling of poisonous pesticides such as Endosulfan and the children get less than Rs.20 (half dollar) per day.[64] The company has refuted these claims on the basis that the children are not directly employed by the company.

Farmer suicides in India

Frontline's "Seeds of Suicide: India's Desperate Farmers" has detailed some of the struggles facing the Indian farmer.[65] The transition to using the latest pest-resistant seeds and the necessary herbicides has been difficult. Farmers have been lured to genetically modified seeds promoted by Cargill and Monsanto by the promise of greater yields. Resulting debts from such gambles with genetically modified seeds have led some farmers into the equivalent of indentured servitude and alarming suicide rates in the thousands.[66][67]

In India, Monsanto's GM seed business is run by a joint venture, Mahyco Monsanto Biotech (MMB) India Ltd.[68] and markets its BT Cotton seeds under various names. The Andhra Pradesh government has registered a case against Monsanto for its high seed prices.[48]

In July 2004, India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh promised to set aside funds in the federal budget to aid struggling farmers, as well as the families of those who committed suicide. For each struggling farming household he pledged 150,000 rupees (about $3,400), and in addition, for families mourning a relative who committed suicide, he pledged a federal compensation of 50,000 rupees (about $1,136). At the time that Prime Minister Singh wrote this legislation, well over 3,000 Indian farmers had already committed suicide.[69]

In the United Kingdom

Monsanto dumped thousands of tons of waste containing PCBs in a quarry near Groesfaen, Wales.[70] Also responsible for dumping various unconfirmed contaminates at a site near Llwyneinion, North Wales.[citation needed]

In the United States

The non-profit Center for Food Safety[71] listed 112 lawsuits by Monsanto against farmers for claims of seed patent violations.[72] The Center for Food Safety's analyst stated that many innocent farmers settle with Monsanto because they cannot afford a time consuming lawsuit. Monsanto is frequently described by farmers as "Gestapo" and "Mafia" both because of these lawsuits and because of the questionable means they use to collect evidence of patent infringement.[73]

Monsanto is responsible for more than 50 United States Environmental Protection Agency‎ Superfund sites, dating back to the era in which the company was called "Monsanto Chemical."[74]

As of May, 2008, Monsanto is currently engaged in a campaign to prohibit dairies which do not inject their cows with artificial bovine growth hormone from advertising this fact on their milk cartons.[75] When the Federal Trade Commission did not side with Monsanto on this issue, the company started lobbying state lawmakers to implement a similar ban. Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolfe attempted to prohibit dairies from using labels stating that their milk does not contain artificial bovine growth hormone, but public outcry led Governor Edward Rendell to reverse this ban.[76]

In Missouri

Gary Rinehart of Eagleville, Missouri was sued by Monsanto in 2002, who claimed that he had violated their Roundup Ready Soybean patent. Rinehart is not a farmer or seed dealer, but he still had to spend money for his legal defense. Monsanto eventually dropped the lawsuit, but never issued an apology, admitted to making a mistake, or offered to pay for Rinehart's legal expenses.

Monsanto sued the Pilot Grove Cooperative Elevator in Pilot Grove, Missouri, claiming that offering seed cleaning services to farmers was tantamount to inducing them to pirate Monsanto seeds. The Pilot Grove Cooperative Elevator had been cleaning seeds for decades before companies like Monsanto could even patent organisms.[72][74]

In Illinois

Monsanto Chemical company founded and incorporated the town of Sauget, Illinois, to avoid taxation from East Saint Louis. For many years the company employed the city's people and polluted its environment while giving them no tax revenue in return, even during the city's decline throughout the latter half of the 20th century.

In Alabama

Monsanto is accused of encouraging residents of Anniston, Alabama to use soil known by the company to be contaminated with PCBs as top soil.

Its like DIck Cheney in a darth vader suit should be running that company.

It will never leave committee.

As someone who tries to grow organic as much as possible, im all for it.

As someone that grew up on a farm, Im sometimes a bit leary of the organic food crop crowd, because its so difficult to grow clean, quality food crops organically.

Many of the genetic alterations that are found in food crops and many of the chemical applications developed for food crops where developed due to crop destroying diseases and the health problems that existed in our society from eating bacterial contaminated foods grown using manure for fetilizers and no chemicals to protect us..

We have to be cautious. There are people in the food industry that dont' care if people die. Those who succeeded in the fool hearty act of grinding up the dead cattle and feeding it to the live cattle brought us mad cow disease and those people are aliv e and well, but dont resist change just because its not "orgainic".
