why did Obama lie? I'm a democrat and voted for him, along with a local ballot to decriminalize (which passed). I remember that stupid "choice.org" website or whatever it was where you could vote on the importance of issues. Well, marijuana was at the VERY top of the voting. To quote Obama "I think it ranked up there....not sure what that says about the online audience..."
WTF?! What a piece of crap. Hello? The people voted, and now you don't care that it ranked #1 by like 20 million votes?
I'm moving to a country with a monarchy. And installing myself as Lord Protector.
And he laughed at us !!!!!

Do you care to tell us what he lied about regarding marijuana?

I'm going to start deleting posts if they are incorrect and are done just to incite arguments..... It's getting really old babysitting these political arguments.......

Sure jjscorpio....I was under the impression that the choice.org site or whatever that voting thing was, was going to start the administration on the right foot and let the people decide on the issues, and Obama would act on them. Now it seems as though the voting was pointless, as Obama has laughed at the #1 concern of the people - marijauana prohibition. I'd say that's a lie. Unless you work for Fox News, aka the Twilight Zone.

I'll say what I've said numerous times before: If I were the President of the United States...in spite of how much I personally love marijuana....I'd be extremely reluctant to be the first one to suggest legalization/decrim. It seems to be a very unpopular political stance for someone to take....it's tantamount to career suicide.
Being the 1st Black President of the United States...I'd say he's got alot more on the line than this one issue...
Everyone's arguments are cogent, the points made in the past for decrim./legalization are powerful, but they're not enough to get someone that's a high level politcal figure to just step behind and endorse...surely not one so surrounded by the media and that has so much on his shoulders given the current state of the country.

I will say again that the ONLY way to accomplish this is to get the individual states to change their laws and regulations. 20 years ago I would have thought this would be impossible...but since that time we have established 13 out of 50 states in this way.

You will never see decrim. or legalization before a MAJORITY of the states tow the line.

Only when the entire nation is behind this can some high level political candidate then say: "The people have ALREADY SPOKEN", and then make the moves to change things at a federal level.

You should be ecstatic that Obama isn't upregulating the war on drugs, and he's been vocal about the DEA taking down the dispensaries....in fact now it's been stated openly that the Feds will only go after those individuals that are violating STATE AND FEDERAL law at the same time.

Isn't that SOME CHANGE?

IMHO it is. It's exactly what I expected him to do.

Keep on keepin' on in the states. Eventually we shall overcome.

Alright, here's the story.

The moderators aren't going to sit here all night to make sure this doesn't turn into a political haymaker. So let me make this clear.

Anyone inciting angry political arguments going off the thread topic will get a minimum 7 day ban.

Those that consistently call someone a name because they get angry will get a minimum 7 day ban.

Those that argue someone's ban will get a minimum 7 day ban.

If you can't have a mature political discussion without getting angry you might as well go do something else. It won't be long before this site cuts off all political discussions completely. Gypsys not paying for this site for people to constantly make negative off the wall posts and comments. Feel free to disagree with Obama, republicans or democrats, but be an adult about it......

Wow this thread is trip!

I wonder how many people in this discussion have gone to prison over marijuana? I have! I am not angry.
1. He laughed so what, pot heads are funny that is the stereo type. Where you been?
2. I had no expectation that He would be any different.
3. Legalizing and taxing MJ is not a realistic solution for turning around the economy right now.
4. Even if behind closed doors He thinks that legalization or decriminalization is the right thing to do. Do you expect Him to say it right there in that forum.

Also, I do think it laws against MJ started with the federal gov ( I could be wrong ). But I do think that it is more important now knowing what the situation is in Washington that everyone focus their energy and their petitions to the states where they reside. If we could get the states that elected Obama to legalize or decriminalize, the feds would have to make this as a priority.

I think you're right about that. But more important than Obama's approval rating, the country itself could possibly see problems....the simple fact that Obama is african-american may incite people like Limbaugh to call the marijuana movement as an "african-american" thing..possibly. Lot of stupid stuff could happen.
I personally think the only main issue with legalization is the realization of huge corporations losing billions of $ to cannabis products - food, clothing, medicine, textiles, etc. I think regardless of the president at hand, as long as all these huge companies are giving our politicians money, we will never see legalization.

If the states are allowed to choose without discrimination or the feds getting involved that would be good enough for now. In my mind cannabis will always be free and someday maybe for everyone.
