best size grow tent

Im about to move into a bigger place, and am considering upgrading to a grow tent and a 400 watt hps. I havent bought anythng yet, as im still waiting to move in before i order things. I plan to have a 400 watt air cooled or cooltube pulling like this: inside tent>carbon filter>cooltube>out tent

what size tent would you suggest for a 400 watt hps. i would like to be able to set up a perpetual harvest like every two weeks, using my current cab to veg in if i can. Also i was thinking about getting a 8in vortex because i plan to go bigger later and can always set a speed controller to it and slow it down and make it quieter. should i go with it, or just a 6inch?

400W is optimal on a 60cm*60cm or 2'*2' area. But if you use a hood,they are often to big for a small tent. keep in mind you need your venting tubes too.

Im currently thinking of getting the homebox S or possibly the homebox L depending on if i feel i have enough room when i move into the new place. the homebox S is 2.6'X2.6"X3.9" which i would thinkg should be enough room for a small 400 watt light. cooltube will depend on what the temps are like in the new place also. any one got any other thoughts on suggestions on this? thanks samba for the heads up about room for the ducting, i always forget to take that into account. im going to go search for more info on people growing in tents with 400 watt lights, and what size tents and lights.

I can only speak about secret jardins, but I have a 600 w hps in a DarkRoom 150 and I feel like I have too much room. In the grow tent thread there is someone who runs a 400 w hps in a DarkRoom 80...

My recommendation is get a 600 w instead of a 400 w and maybe pick up a DarkRoom 120. I'm not positve butI think the 120 is something like 4'11x4'11

thats a lil bigger than i think i will have room for. i would like to stay with a 400 watt just to save on electric. i'll look at some of the secret jardin and darkroom tho and see what i think of some smaller ones.

If you're tight on space you can get a 5"@20"long cooltube into a homebox S (60cmx60cm)

And as the light spreads to the sides you'll light up the 2 corners nicely. But If you have the space,go for a bigger tent,you can then upgrade in time if you feel like it. And as someone said: You don't get addicted on weed, you get addicted to growing it! And thats a fact

I'd look into 400 watt cmh for the smaller size tent, will help keep heat down.

i'll have to look into the cmh lights, i dont know much about them. its good to know that i can fit a 5"x20" cooltube in the small homebox S. im still open to suggestions for some good budget priced 400 watt lights/ballast. I hope to upgrade again but that wont be until maybe end of the summer or end of this year and i hope to get two bigger tents and put in 2 1000 watt lights if i can and have a small veg tent too, with hopes to yeild a pound every 4 weeks. currrently i would like to just have more than enough for me and my girl to smoke and a lil extra. i plan to try to run this new tent kinda sog style, putting a plant or two into flowering at staggered times. any thoughts on doing this in a tent?

HTG garden supply is hard to beat.
I wouldn't worry to much about the CMH, just get it and you will be very happy with it.
Runs on 400 HPS ballast (not digital).

Run the light in a tube vertical and you can get your buds up close and personal with a cooled light situation.

The darkroom 120 is 3'11'' by 3'11'' by 6 ft 6". A 600 watt light will just about max it out, though a 400 will work fine, it's easily cooled and leave you room to maneuver in the tent.( i use a 400 watt cmh in one)

i'll check out htg, i have also seen thier stuff on ebay too. I've read some about vertical growing and sounds awesome, but i think im just not quite ready to try playing like that. wastekan, do you have any link to your grow? so far im still thinking the homebox S but that could change when i get moved in and see what im working with. glad to know that the 400w cmh runs off a hps ballast. Would i have room in a homebox s for an air-cooled hood?
