fan size for 4x8??

is a 6 inch vortex good enough exhaust for a 4x8 tent with 2 600s?? it will be pulling right through the filter and right out of the tent, i know the optimum is to refresh the air in the grow room 3 times a minute, but everyone always buys a fan and cuts down on the speed so i figured y waste all the cfm, this would refresh the air only 2 times , not too far off though, any one doing this with no problem???

I would go with an 8 inch at least, especially since summer is around the corner. Maybe if you have an intake you could possibly get away with using a 6 inch exhaust

You might be able to do it, depending on your intake temp. I'd get an 8" just in case, then you can get a speed controller and adjust it to whatever speed is ideal.

I'm going to be flowering in a 4x8 tent with 2 600's and plan on air cooling lights with one six inch and then exhaust/scrub with another 6 inch vortex. Have talk to others who run the same set up and claim it is sufficient.

Yes i have been fully successful in using one 6" to air cool 4 600"s on y split with 2 in a row. I used a 4" vortex for air cooling 3 600's in a 4x8 so i would say your within reasonable limits.

Note larger fans move air more quietly so just be aware you may want to install a duct muffler for smaller fans.

i have a 4'10'' x 9'10" tent 2 1000's and 1 6in cools them just fine

currently running a 4x8 with two 600s and I have a fan, scrubber, and muffler on both lights. both reflectors suck air from the middle of the tent. wondering if it would be better to run one fan on the lights and seal them, and one fan scrubbing air and exhausting. then my other scrubber could be a backup. let me know what you pros think. peace and smoke.

How does air cooling the lights and having the glass block out lumens, affect the yield?? plus in order to have a decent light spread over my whole crop i would already have to be at the least 8 inches off my tops

Assuming that you aren't using an awkward amount of duct work, and that your intake is adequate. . .

I'd say that your ideal setup would be a 4" vortex fan pulling air through your air-cooled hoods, and a 6" fan to scrub/exhaust. Air-cooled lights don't need much air rushing by to keep them cool.

If your tent is 4' x 8' and let's say 7' tall, that would be 224 cubic feet inside. A 6" vortex fan is rated @ 449 cfm, but let's say it's really running @ 300 cfm because of the filter. With proper internal circulation to prevent hot spots, your tent should be completely flushed with new air in 1-1.5 minutes. That's extremely conservative. Most growers consider a fan that will exchange all the air in their grow space every 2-3 minutes adequate.

depending on your ambient temps (if you live by the coast) i would say your fine with a 6" fan. But you mentioned your adding a carbon filter on the end of your duct run, carbon filters reduce your fans output by 30% so keep that in mind. IME i have been able to keep a rooms temps within 10 degrees of the outside/ambient temp when using the appropriately sized fan and filter.
