I just bought a mini split unit and the lines need to be evacuated, has anybody done this themselves? If so, how? Or did you cann a tech to come out? I'm kinda stuck

Nobody? Come on , someone, anyone! I'm stuck with a thousand dollar ac unit and no way of evac'ing the lines.

well you need specialized equipment to do it... one of those manifold things and a vaccume pump. my friend did mine & it is VERY easy to do as long as you have the equipment..
or you can call an ac tech to do it cause they dont have to go inside to do it once everything is hooked up properlly. it can all be done from the outside part.just make sure everything is done right or he might want to come in to fix..lol
whatever you do MAKE SURE AND DO IT RIGHT, if you take shortcuts you will damage the 1k unit for sure! getting the moisture out of the lines(vacumme) is prob the most important step of the install.

Thats my fear of calling a tech, he'll want to see the indoor unit. If he does ask, i gotta make up a reason as to why i cant let him in the room. FUCK!
Ideally i should've waited to have the unit installed THEN build the room around it but...
All i need is for the tech to have a suspicion, thats all it ever takes.

i would just tell them you will be @ work & askem if they can do it all w/o u beeng there. (they can its easy) all work is on the outside unit.
but if t were me, i would want to be there so i could watch the tech do it, that way i could do it myself next time.

I bought a vac pump from harbor freight......manifold from e bay........about 110 dollars for both.I think it is worth the money not to have the chance of someone knowing.It might even cost near that for the service call . If you can follow simple instructions it is not difficult to do.

but yeah most of the cost is in the vacume pump and gauges. Does your mini split have welded lines or are they tapered fittings? When you make the connections, and pump the system down,unhook the vacume pump and leave the gages connected for at least 4 hours, slight rises and lowering of the pressure is normal depending on temperature, but major drops obviously signal a leak, never open the parker valves if the system won't hold a vacume. when you buy your gages make sure they will read for the refrigerant your unit is using. Make sure there is a filter dryer in the high pressure side. Don't take any shortcuts, especially if it uses R-410 refrigerant, that shit is a moisture magnet, and any trapped moisture in the system will very quickly degrade the lubricating oil in the compressor, ultimately destroying the compressor.

who me, Arlen, Man guys i really appreciated the time you took to help me out. I thought about trying to evac the lines myself. Is there anywhere else i can get the gauges and pump? Like Lowes or something? Ill spend the $$$ on doing it myself.
Believe it or not, a friend of mine built the room for me and decided to stand me up at the most crucial part; installing the ac. I wouldve installed the ac first then build the room around it but i never expected to get stood up like this.
I repeated told the guy that i am depending on him to finish what he started, i spent 3 grand on materials and the ac unit, and the guy just flat doesnt show up anymore and he wont return my pms'. Hows that for fucked up?
I thought the dude was a good friend.
My wife is chewing my ass apaprt because she walks into my garage and sees a 3 thousand dollar growroom thats completely useless.

just make sure & get complete instruction b4 attempting it yourself. you will end up losing your charge if not done in a very specific order. sorry i cant be of anymore help, luckily i was able to have a friend do mine.
in the end you will be very happy with the investment, splits are worth the time & investment once in place and working properly. i have a trash can that catches the condensation, so i barley use my h20 ro-filter anymore!

Hey, just installed one myself. Did your unit come with instructions? You will need a vacuum pump and a manifold gauge set, that is for the right refrigerant. Like stated above : after you pull the vacuum and close the manifold , wait awhile to see if it holds the vacuum. This is where I messed up. I thought the point of vacuuming was just to remove moisture, but it will also tell you if you have a leak. I pulled the vacuum but then didnt wait and I released the refrigerant into lineset. There was a small tear in line, which leaked out refrigerant. Anyhow, mine came with instructions that got me through the vacuuming part, It is simple.

AVALANCHBUD, which unit did you buy? Mine came with those very same instructions. Was it easy to set up yourself? I dont think i have a choice but to attempt it myself, i cant take a chance of a tech getting suspicious.

I think the main problem if finding out of the fitting will work with the gauge set. I mean from vacuum pump to gauge set, to r410a fitting. most arent r410a there r22...

i think they make conversion fittings, i remember my buddy talking about somthing like that he had to get from the a/c supply store.. looked like a needle to pump up a basketball with..he kept calling it the "key" to the operation.. i dunno, lol..

Well guys,thanks for all the help but the grow room was torn down due to security concerns. The only other person that knows is the guy that was supposed to hook up the ac for me, and he screwed me and now i dont trust him. Better safe than sorry. Had to kill a few primo moms but a few bros have cuts of them so i can get a cut anytime i want. gonna lay low and lurk...Evl
