PH of dolomite lime ?

hi folks

i'll make coco + worm casts + perlite mix and dolomite lime for 2tblspn for per gallon.

the Coir has 5.7-6.5 ph and 0.2 Ec .

but i think there is a something wrong.
what is the PH rate of dolomite lime ?

i found a dolomite lime in where i live and its ph rate is between 8.5 -10 (the rate is written on the label ).

but i read "dolomite lime should have neutral ph 7 " .

the dolomite i would use is normal ?

The first thing you need to do is get rid of that pH meter. pH is not a big factor in organic growing. You have the correct lime except it needs to be powdered. You can do that with a coffee grinder or mortise and pestle if you have the patience.

Organic pH issues

I hear a lot of people asking or talking about the pH of their organic soil mix or organic nute solution and how they might correct or adjust it. pH in organics is not an issue like it is in synthetic growing.
The best place to settle the pH issues in organics is within the grow medium. A medium rich in humates (humus) is the place to start. Humates work to "buffer" the pH of organic mediums and the nutes you pour (or mix) into it.
Humates come from compost, worm castings and bottled humus. If you use a peat based medum, use dolomite lime to raise the pH of the acidic peat. Dolomite should be used in any soil or soiless medium to provide magnesium and calcium. But since we are talking about pH here, I'll mention dolomite lime's pH correction benefits.
A medium of coir has a pH near neutral (or 7.0). But humates are still neded to allow uptake of organic nutrients that are outside a near neutral pH range.
With an active medium rich in humates you can pour in nutes like Pure Blend Pro, Earth Juice and guano teas way outside the optimum pH range without worry. The humus will allow the nutes to be taken up through the roots, even at such an extreme pH reading.
So throw those pH meters away folks and enjoy the ease and safety of organic gardening.

organics and coco is not much touched on, I had no problems using lime and no ph'ing water, but it was a short term plant like 1 month..

but don't expect much help as there is not alot of organic coco grower, especially using lime...

good luck

burn1 ,i dont know how i could thank you .

but i want to say again. thanks for your patience and support.
probably this issues have been already asked a million times before.
but we new growers are in a panic and especailly first time growers that couldnt find anything where live in feels very desperate, like me.

PS: i dont have a ph meter, but i wanted to buy one before talking to you. i wont buy now :)

@habeeb

i think there are many users use LC'S soilless mix.
you say people use LC'S soilless mix with peatmoss instead of coco coir ?
What do you think ?
i have 2 option,
1) coco coir
2) peatmoss

many thanks

Mix both, gain the benefits of both. Coir is amazing, but peat holds moisture better. Great combination of features.

I believe that is too much dolo lime for coco. I generally mix the coco and peat 50 50 with EWC and perlite. I will cut back on the lime if the peat has lime in already.

I believe that is too much dolo lime for coco.
why ? is amount of dolomite different for coco and peatmoss ?

coco and peatmoss, both of them ( that i will use ) have same ph rate ,5,5 6,4

I generally mix the coco and peat 50 50 with EWC and perlite

yes i will mix 50 50 peat and coco.

how much will you use dolomite lime ? 1tablespoon for per gallon ?

it is the dolomite lime i could find easily :

Calcium Oxide: 30% (% Ca: 21.42)
Magnesium Oxide: 18% (% Mg: 10.80)
Zinc: 726 ppm

and its ph is between 8 and 10.

they said to me it is agricultural lime . is it dolomite lime that i want ?

also grain of the that dolomite lime is 1.0 millimeter.

is it ok ?

i bought that product.it was very cheap !

i paid only 6 bucks for 110 lbs :D

i'll use it as 2 tbsp for per gallon. i am trying to do my best .it is extremely hard to find anything here.i was lucky and i found that product.

thanks burn1

PS: burn1 i read on other forums that dolomite lime has neutral ph " 7.0 "

but the lime that i bought has ph between 8-10. havent all dolomite limes got same ph rate ? why mine is different ?
as you know," i am newbie "

Dolomite is in there for calcium and magnesium. pH adjustment is a beneficiary byproduct.
Don't worry about pH.

If you are using humates.....EWC, peat, compost ect which are acidic and add lime for the ca and mg then the off setting benefit is that the lime keeps the ph in balance. I build my soils with all of these and more. I never worry about the ph nor do I EVER check it any more. You can check my old gallery and there are no problems. Now I add coco fiber to the mix and it decomposes slower than peat but acts in a similar way. It will also be acidic.

You can find dolomite lime at the local Wal-mart. I think Espoma produces it and it comes in pellets which you can grind up with a blender.
It is about 53% ca and 35% mg. Which is standard for all dolomite lime.

i dont live in usa and i think i could only one kind of agricultural lime here ( in fact, there are several agricultural limes ( CaCO3 ) but they dont have magnesium )

i think the lime i bought is not true product.

my lime has CaO and MgO .

informations from label of my lime :

ingredients :

Calcium Oxide: 30% (% Ca: 21.42)
Magnesium Oxide: 18% (% Mg: 10.80)
however, dolomite lime consist of
calcium carbonate ( CaCO3 ) and magnesium carbonate ( MgCO3 ).

i think i bought wrong item . :fsu:

what do you think ? can i still use this lime ?

PS: i found in forum a picture of epsoma garden lime that has Mg and Ca.even Mg and Ca ratio is same with my lime, but mine has CaO and MgO.
but epsoma garden lime has also CaCO3 and MgCO3,just like a normal dolomite lime . i dont know if my lime contains CaCO3 and MgCO3 as well.

PS 2: the picture is not belong to my lime,it is picture of epsoma garden lime

And that's why I'm trying organic this grow. Hopefully I can just follow a recipe and everything will take care of itself.

I also found the Jersey Greensand today! I'm so happy :)
