How do I block light in the vents in a grow tent?

I posted this in another thread I have on here asking about what kind of grow tent to get, but nobody has responded so I decided to ask here. I am trying to figure out how I can block light in the vents in my DR120 tent. I plan on using the four 6" holes in the sides as intakes and I need to block the light somehow. I have tried using 6" semi rigid ducting cut into 4' lengths and bending it around but the light goes through some since it's shiny inside. Maybe I should have tried the whole 8' pieces instead of cutting it into 4' sections. :wallbash:Is there anything I could put over the opening on that ducting inside to block the light? Or would painting the inside of that stuff black work?

without seeing it i would say take a couple of small boxes and duct tape. make a u shape out of the boxes.tape up good to opening and make sure tunnel though the u shaped box is big enough to move all your air.if noy use bigger boxes.make sure the top end is pointed to your tent and has room between the box and the tent.kinda like a blind.peace

What about smell... something you don't worry about in your situation?

well myself im under the assumption that hes leaving the inlets open, fan and filter creating neg pressure meaning the only air leaving the tent will be from his exhaust.

bend your tubing into a "S" shape but with 4' may be hard...maybe tape it back together and try it if it works buy another one??? worked for me in the past.HH. =]-~

Thanks for the replies. I have a Can 66 in this DR120 and I have it running Can 66---> Super Sun 2 hood ---> Roof Vent hole ---> 8" Can Fan (I'm using 8"-6" reducers at the Can 66 and at the 8" Can Fan). When I turn the can fan off there's quite a bit of smell, but with the Can Fan running you can't smell anything at all, so it's working pretty good. But even with all 4 of those vents open it's sucking the sides of the tent in quite a bit (tons of negative pressure). I'm using a speed controller with the Can Fan but I have it turned up to probably 3/4 speed.

After I cut those pieces of ducting in half I realized that I should have left them whole. Do you think that the weight of those pieces of ducting should be supported somehow? They're pretty light and I was gonna just leave them hanging from those openings but then I thought that maybe it would possibly tear the stitching?

I'm gonna try that I think. I wish these pieces were a little cheaper though...

It sounds like what you're talking about would work, but I can't picture in my head what you're talking about exactly. :wallbash::bashhead:

I have a DR 150.
I run it like this Can66 > cooltube > 8" VORTEX
And have a 6" vortex blowing IN .
I also use two lengths of BLACK flexi hose on the roof of the tent as passive intakes.
The black and curvy nature of the hose take care of light.
If you don't blow IN you will rip the stitches and zippers out.

Where do you get the black hose from? What is it intended to be used for? Do they have something like that at Home Depot or Lowes?

A black fabric folded over a couple of times will block light and allow plenty of air through.

Just wrap it around the end or your exhaust, cheap and easy.

i believe that if you bought industrial velcro and cut it intostrips you could easily clean up a lot of the pinhole and zipper type of leaks for CHEAP. when I do this to mine I will let you know. I believe my model is a growlab 120L peace and smoke.

ding ding ding! correct, there is smell that leaks through, luckily my bagseed ain't smelly... i'll forsure be getting a vaportek for what my scrubber isn't scrubbing...which isn't much.

H-D has it in 6" dia. 25' lengths.
It's used for heating and A/C.
MUCH QUIETER than the alu. stuff.

Cool, thanks. I went in there looking for something like that but I couldn't find anything. I went in there before I got your reply and I thought maybe you were talking about that black drainage pipe or something but I didn't even see that stuff in there. I think I know what you're talking about now though. I'm gonna go back in there in about a half hour and see if I can find what you're talking about. Do you happen to know exactly what they call the stuff?

I went to Home Depot again and all they have is the insulated ducting stuff. It's not that black stuff that I've seen used for AC ducting and stuff like I think you were talking about.
