coco with hydroton bottom layer

I use growbags and fill the bottom 2 inches or so with hydroton. I just don't trust the drainage holes on the bottom of the growbags to work properly when the weight of all the medium+the plant is resting down on them, so I fill with hydroton to the top of the side drainage holes just to be safe.

yeah, i really want to do a DWC with this rubbermaid think i might by a flood tray, drill some holes at the bottom corners of the rubbermaid, few in the bottom center, and a few about an inch up along the sides of the hydroton. the air flows well through the coco even when wet and we all already know the hydroton is great for aeration now i just have to regulate the circulation with in the container. air flow is great in the coco but, i think the hydroton layer can be tweaked a bit. thinking along the lines of a hempy container hybrid, but, lots of small holes around the hydroton bottom layer. i'll probably throw a fan at one end to keep things moving.:joint:

That should give you good airflow uder the coco.

But if you want the ultimate air flow go for a cloth smart pot with
the hydroton layer on the bottom. you'll have complete airflow for
the coco medium through the cloth material.

You could also use a mesh net pots ( 9" round or square) and get
complete airflow through the net pot , as well.

I plan to experiment on this also.

yup bought the drain trey, drilled some holes in the bottom, rearranged everything symmetrically. looks good but, plants are in slight shock from rearrangement but, everything should be alright in a couple of weeks. when i take cuts, they'll flower in 5gal straight coco though. yeah, give it a try my first run with coco so, i'm just grasping the reins and finding my way. i feel there was a lot of shit i could of been told about prior to this............
