I am a new grower wondering a couple things. I have a small cab, about 3ft 2in tall, 2ft 2in wide, by 1 ft 1 inch deep. if i run a 400w bulb with about 4-6 plants sog style can i get about 1 1/2 ounces per plant? with this amount of wattage? if so how tall should i let plants get before i put them on 12/12?? please any input would be greatly appreciated. will have some pics soon. also im in the midwest area!!! hello to all midwesterners!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know how you're going to keep from creating an oven with that big light in that tiny space, man.

There's no way for anyone to guess what your yields will be without a TON more info and even then, it's pure speculation. Figure your average plant will put on somewhere between 50 and 100% of its size in stretch once you flip it to 12/12 and work from there deciding what size to flip.

Hey for something that small i would suggest a 250w or possibly t5's

t5's would be the best way to go in that space to be honest...

i would get a 2 foot 4 lamp system i think its 250w around that area....

You can pull off the 400w HPS if you get an air cooled hood and you have the proper ventilation. I've seen it done.

If you really want to pull 1.5 oz off each plant, I would highly suggest a ScrOG to maximize the coverage with your lights.

You are also going to need a high yielding strain that does well in SOG and ScrOG. To keep things short it will probably need to be an indica dom strain at that.

That's about all I've got for you with the limited information we have.

Goodluck

sorry about the lack of information. plan on having 1-2 gallon pots. The strains i am running are cotton candy, super skunk, california orange, cheese and black domina, dont really know much about the first three first time doing them. i got the cc, ss, and co orange from clones from a friend this will be the first time with them. dont know much about them but would like and tips on those strains if anyone can help???

crash and burn* i was thinking it would get too hot too, might switch to a 250 hps. if this would be better???

osecretgarden* i dont really know how to scrog, i am new at this any tips will help and are much appreciated. i have only 3 grows under my belt, one outdoor(about 10 oz with 6 plants) and two indoor that i did the cheese and black domina. not good yields though as my friend was the main care taker and didnt do to well.

a 400w in just over two square feet? I'm not expert, but that really seems like overkill. Wouldn't a 150 be about the right size?

it might be overkill joey i dont know im just a beginner. a couple other ppl suggested 250 or a 150 hps might go with that just looking for some pointers here.

i'll say right off the bat unless you go 12/12 from seed the cotton candy and black domina will most likely outgrow your small erea. a 400w hps can be placed in the small space but you'll need a cooltube because of your depth of 1ft my air cooled hood is 16 inch wide 9 inch tall. but for a load of info regarding 400w lighting in cabs heres some reading http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=21967&highlight=400+watt+club the 400w club

This statement leads me to recommend the following book: Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower's Bible

It's a great starting point. It has very detailed information about lights and the areas they can cover, as well as comparisons of different systems & bulbs, and 500 some pages of 100% useful information pertaining to our beloved hobby! $20 - $25 at Barnes & Nobles.

maj.* thanks for the info in cc, never grown it so was a great a tip thanks i knew the black domina would get big, but planed on turnin to 12/12 when the girls get 10" tall..

troubleguy* i will be getting that book if its only that much, sounds like its worth it.

I have another flower room, didnt really want to use it, only wanted something for personal use the room is 4ft wide X 2 1/2 ft Deep X 5 ft tall that i could use was just tryin to go a little smaller

The cool tube reflectors work well for small spaces, then you could proly just stick with the 400 watt, thats plenty of light to expect an ounce an a half per plant, if your temps, hum, nutes, and all the other variables get lined up! With a space like that you want to hyper focus on the basics, and everything else with just follow, actually that applies to any grow, and life for that matter. your canopy development will play a big part also, keeping it low in that small space and filling up all four corners. might want to think about super cropping, keeping in mind the flattest possible solutions!!! bottom feeding would free alot of space up that you use to need top feeding, if that is applicable.

ok...the 4 by 2 ft. room is close to perfect for an air cooled hood with a 400 HPS........and you could use the 1 by 2 ft. room for mothers and/or clones with some 2 ft. T5 bulbs for lighting...they make a 4-bulb 2ft T5 setup that might just fit into your space....I have used them and they work great in small spaces.
