NYC Sour Diesel (aka East Coast Diesel) overrated?

So I have gone through 1.5/2 ounces of NYC Sour Diesel (aka East Coast Diesel) and i now think that this strain is quite overrated. Don't get me wrong, its not all bad. The smell of this stuff is powerful, it has a classic weed smell. I had it wrapped in 3 Ziploc bags and it stunk the place up before i put it in my mason jar. The look definitely looks like some dank weed. Finally, the high is good but not great as i expected. I think it is a slightly Sativa dominant hybrid. Anyway, the big let down of this strain is that the high lasts maybe 45 min (average between 5 ppl who are seasoned smokers). It hits you like a train and then fades real quick.


Smell: 4.5/5 [Smells stinky as hell! The classic smell of weed]
Look: 4/5 [Looks dank! (aka, looks to be a well trimmed and impressive specimen of weed)]
High: 3/5 [It is good weed, but doesnt last long enough, approx 45 min]

Overall: 3.8/5 [Not bad weed, but over rated a bit]

What do you guys think? What are your experiences with this strain?

I have no experience but thought I read NYCD is different from real ECSD and believe I remember a thread or two with people commenting NYCD not as good as real ECSD.

Are you sure you didn't smoke NYC diesel from SOMA? Also did you grow this yourself or buy it commercially? How long did you take it?

ECSD is known to have a short lived high. However I have not met a strain yet that suffers in quality of high if taken to early/immaturely than the ECSD, to an above average extent. 80-90 days is where it needs to be. If you bought this commercially I highly doubt it went the proper amount of time not to mention probably was not cures as it should have bee. Even when taken late as it should though its duration is pretty short. The taste is to die for, if cured properly it is even better.

ecsd is one of the best without a doubt, flavor texture smell potency, everything is 10 outta 10. If you guys dont like it maybe its your cannabinoid receptors that are trippin

LOL! Havent tried ECSD but I hear mixed things about all "none" Soma Diesel. My geuss is its hit or miss. My receptors are fried at the moment. Way too much LA Confidential

i smoke all day long. to me most strains dont get me high at all. the sour diesels amazing hour to hour and half high is nice because tolerance doesnt build quickly and you can smoke more tasty dank and get just as high for another hour hour and a half.so to answer your question. nycd is overrated yes. its bomb but europeans are crazy about it. ecsd is the fire tho fa sho. never overrated in my opinion

There is no Diesel in NYCD. ECSD is the real Sour Diesel. NYCD is a poser.

Well i got my ECSD from Katsu when i got my Bubba and Jackie from him aswell, and all three are in my top 10, if not top 5 or even top 3 Sadly i lost the ECSD i had

Deffinitly agree with Kusheater on the flowering time, my very last ones i grew went 83 days

Really wish i could track that exact cut down again as it as special, but i dont miss the longer flowering periods, 56-63 for me please

What's the difference in lineage btwn the ECSD and the NYCD? I used to get some really unique smelling weed from a grower who was a botanist. He called it East Coast Sour Diesel and it was one of my favorites.

I always thought that NYCD was a hybrid from bagseed and ECSD was a little different. IDK there is a lot of speculation around this plant.

Maybe one day I will find a generous member who is dying for me to try it and then I could give a good rating.

I wanna see if she lives up to the hype. LOL!

I just recently tried some Sour Diesel for the first time, and though it was very good I definitely feel that it is overrated (it was grown and cured properly.) After hearing all the hype I was expecting something exceptional something that would make me feel like it was my first time smoking, I was expecting to feel this extremely heady psychedelic type of high, I was expecting to be so high that It felt like I was tripping, but this was not the case. It was definitely heady but not nearly what I expected. Three of us burned a fatty and about half way through it the other two were turning it down, from there I smoked it down to about a 1/4 inch roach until I got tired of relighting it. About 25 minutes later I got the urge to burn another one but this time I wanted to try Sputnik 2.0 to see how it compared to the Sour Diesel. (I have phased out other strains like Bubblicious and Cinderella Blues in favor of Sputnik 2.0 but this is the first time that I was able to compare it to one of the supposed super strains such as Sour Diesel) The first hit instantly cut through the Sour Diesel and put me right were I needed to be. Everything immediately got brighter and colors became more vibrant. The Sour Diesel is a good strain but I believe that people are getting caught up in the hype. I acquired some cuttings from the Sour Diesel I smoked. I plan on running them side by with Sputnik 2.0 so that I can truly compare apples to apples.

i grow some NYCDiesel from Weedseedshop.com wich i suppose to be a soma NYCDiesel breed with itself to make more seeds for business (for around 45 euros with shipping the pack of ten regulars.) i did the same myself with some Biggie small from DocChronic seeds to make more seeds wich i think should be nearly the same as the originals BGS.
i think Weedseedshop's NYCDiesel is the real one or close to ,because it's in all ways conform to the soma descriptions of growth, smell, taste,shape, flow time and plant size.
this strain is grown for 3 around 3 years now by my friend and for 1 year by me also.
we have 2 different mothers then 2 different phenos, from wich we are cloning all the time to run perpetual flow.

the result is so good for a noob like me, both in quality and quantities (for only personnal and familly use), i pull around 350 from a 600hps on 1.2 square meter with coco and hand watering every other day with nutes and a bit enzymes.i know i can improve that and i will, but i understand by this fact that it's a good yielder cause a noob like me can make 350g with nearly no experience...!!!

anyway, i'm in love with this strain ( and many others soon for sure...) and i'll keep it for sure, and there is no fasho or marketing here, its a cheap bag of seed that we bought and we enjoy bomb all the time now.

i mean this strain need to be understand and after that you'll be able to pull more.

i also prefer let it go around 80dayz like said before in the thread.

NYCD leans more towards a fruity yet still sour grapefruit/tangerine smell and taste, the ecsd has a more petrol, earthy, musky, sour acrid flavor that stains the pallet.
