Dark Room 60 - CFL or HID?

So I'm finally gonna go for an indoor grow. The market for green "vegetables" has completely dried up here in Norway, and I don't wanna support the
drug syndicates from Eastern Europe that are running the show here (selling bad hashish.

I'm gonna buy the Dark Room 60x60x140cm grow tent. For ventilation I will use a S&P 180m3/h mixed vent fan (with carbon filter). Maybe i will tune the vent down to 140m3/h for noise controll (noise is my main concern).
I don't plan to run with a cooltube, but might change my oppinion on that issue, if it's essential for such a small grow tents.

And i can't decide what lights to use. I'm being torn between:
a) 150w HID kit (MH bulb for growth + HPS bulb for flowering)
b) 125w CFL kit (1 bulb for growth + 1 bulb for flowering)
c) 200w CFL kit (1 bulb for growth + 1 bulb for flowering)

(I have a 250w HPS but that's too big for my setup, because the room in which the grow tent will stand, has pretty bad ventilation, only a 16x16cm open duct)

I will grow "Ice Cream" from Paradise (feminised seeds), most likely a Scrog.

So what light setup do you guys recommend for this small grow tent?
CFLs or 150w HID (MH +HPS)? :1help:

60x60, you will need the 250hps to cover that area. heat may be an issue in the tent, can you not find anywhere to vent the warm air ? use it as heating to warm your house? it will not overheat your whole house btw, just warm up an almost sealed room to a comfortable temperature.
another option.. CMH! do you have a magnetic ballast? if so cmh bulbs put out slightly less heat.
cooltube may or may not be needed, you will have to give the tent a test run to see what temps are reached.
your other lighting choices wont cover 60x60 very well, you would ideally need TWO of A,B and C.

id try and work with the 250 ballast you already have :)

oh and you dont need to use MH, hps will veg okay, but start seeds under blue 20-30w cfl's for a couple of weeks before showing them the hid.

Go with the 200w CFL setup and show smokey you can pull off the same as you would with a 250w HPS....

I can vent the varm air out the 16x16cm duct that goes outside. Fresh air can come through cracks in the walls + I can open the door (I just closed and lock it when I have visitors).

I know that 150w HPS wont cover 60x60cm, so my plan was to grow a Scrog with a screen that is maybe 45x45cm.
I'm no heavy smoker so if i can get 50-60g (2 oz) every second month from my flower tent I'll be more than happy. I'll take seedlings from my first grow and put them in a veg cab, so I can have continious plants in the flower cab.

How does a 200w cfl compare to 150w hps when it comes to heat produced?
And can 200w cfl gives approx the same yield as a 150 hps?

I'm a student living in a rented apartment in a basement, and once a month I'm going home to my family, thus leaving the grow setup unattained. I've read that cfls are demanding more supervision because the lights are so close to the plants. This is a factor that makes me want to go for hps.

How big pots/containers are needed for Scrog under 150w hps? Is 6liter pots big enough?
And how many plants in a 150w scrog setup, 1 plant , 2 plants or 4 small plants?

Thanks in advance!

yes you should be able to do a 45x45 scrog with a 150.
since you can vent some of the air, you wont be overheating it, so again i think you should consider using your 250ballast with either the hps, or the lower heat producing CMH which would be ideal for you.

now as you say your grow will be unnattended sometimes, you should use the biggest pot you can, this is so there will be longer periods between watering.
1 plant is fine, 2 would fill the screen faster.
now if you were to use the cfl, you are right that you would want it closer and in veg whilst you are away, it may need adjusting, but 150hps could be kept further away (250 even further).

I've ordered the 150w MH/HPS kit. If I don't get any heat problems with the 250w I'll use that light for flowering and the new kit for vegging.
Now I pray that the S&P td-100 fan will keep my tent/room cool enough. I'm really unsure if this vent is strong enough to be run with a carbon filter/scrubber, but time will tell...

Thanks for the input!

The 150 will put out less ambient heat than the 200 watt cfl. so if you can stick a small fan near the bulb to cool it. the overall temp in the grow tent will be lower.

If the 250 proves to warm for your situation, I'd love to purchase it from you. I've been looking to get a used/discounted one for some time. Pm me if your interested.

Gl wit the heat issues.
