TOO MUCH H20?? OR NOT ENOUGH??

MY SHADE LEAVES ARE SAGGING BAD ONE FRIEND SAID TOO MUCH WATER. ONE FRIEND SAID NOT ENOUGH. LAST TIME I WATERED WAS FRI. THE 27TH. THEY HAVE SLOWLY STARTED FOR AWHILE NOW, BUT THEY ARE SAGGING BAD NOW. MY SOIL IS DRY AND I FLIPPED MY LIGHT 2 12 AND 12 TODAY AND IT'S ALSO TIME FOR ME TO FEED TONIGHT. BUT I DONT KNOW IF I SHOULD. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT. I KNOW IT WOULD BE EASIER TO TELL IN PERSON BUT I THOUGHT I'D ASK.

28 days in veg 2day.

An easy way to determine if your potting medium has enough water is to lift the container off the ground and feel if it is either lite or heavy.
You will be able to tell if the container is lite, if so it will need water.

Also if you are unsure what the container should feel like, simply did your finger down in the soil about 3 inches and see what the moisture feels like...

im using a 30 gallon soil bed thats bolted to the wall, so i cant pick it up. but its been dry i put my finger in there and it wasnt wet. the medium drys out about a day after i water and i water with at least a gallon and a half at a time making sure the medium becomes evenly watered. i watered one day and afterwards my leaves started to droop, i told my buddy and he said to hit it a little harder with the water so i gave them a good watering the next day and they havnt perked back up yet.

id make sure the soil was dry all the way down before u water again.. sounds like your watering too much. a 30 gal soil bed drying out in 1 day sounds pretty fast to me

they were thirsty

they were thirsty

I CANT BELIVE IT!!! MY 30 GALLON SOIL BED DRYS OUT AFTER ONE DAY OF WATERING UNDER A 400W. H.P.S. MY PLANTS WERE JUST THIRSTY;) I WAS REALLY HESITANT TO FEED LAST NIGHT BECAUSE OF THE SAGGING LEAVES AND BECAUSE SOME THOUGHT I OVER WATERED BUT I WENT DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF MY SOIL BED AND IT WAS DRY. I HIT THEM WITH SOME FOOD AND THEY SPRUNG RIGHT BACK INTO ACTION!!! NOW I KNOW I NEED TO KEEP IT NICE AND WATERED IN THERE.

just watch out you can over water em fairly easy. your plants can survive a draught. they CANNOT survive a flood. haven't grown in beds personally but i water every three days. once you see your babies start drooping and the soil feels dry its time to water. they'll tell you. just dont let em wilt.

You're watering with 1 1/2 gallons of water for a 30 gallon bed and you think the 1 1/2 gallon is evenly watering the medium? IMHO you're barely getting the surface soil wet ...

Lift test is the best easy to master. But never poke ur finger in the soil lol.

no lift test in a bed ;)

finger test is good, you can tell if theres moisture deep down or not :nanana:

now i may be wrong here, but 30 gallons of soil should surely need watering with upto half its volume of water. thats if what ive seen scales up.. the various pots ive used have always been able to take half anyway.

1.5 gallons does the trick if my water didnt drain from the bottom then i'm sure i would need to give them more but trust me i'm not just wetting the surface. im using a very light medium and thats why my bed dries out after a 18hrs. of light. the med. stays moist longer now that i cut the light back to 12-12. i water every other day and that seems to work.
