Hi, ICMag!

I've known you longer than you've known me... I'll start the story with the first meeting.

I have a very good friend who is suffering from a wicked cocktail of conditions. She has Lupus, complicated with epilepsy, RA, and heart issues.

:fsu:

She decided to try self-medicating with cannabis, and I volunteered to help. I started calling friends, finding different strains, strengths, etc. From brickweed to stuff some med growers in the PNW occasionally send. Often we would find a fantastic strain that was recreationally awesome, but she'd request the last week's midgrades for the second bowl because they were better medicine. In fact, often the more 'fun' strains were bad for her. They would give some pain relief, but those which gave her too much of a heart rate increase got ruled out quick.

This is where I realized that it's senseless to trust your meds to the black market. You rarely know what you actually have... and although I've never encountered laced pot here (in 14 years of buying bags) if I do, and she smokes it... it's not just unpleasant. It can be fatal. She still won't touch anything if I haven't tried it first, even if I know the grower.

So I started researching the art of growing. It didn't take me long to stumble across IC, and I've found hours (and hours, and hours) of useful information. So much good information here in the how-to section. Even more good information tucked away in the natural flow of conversation
in the grow diaries... I've learned more from the back-and-forth-with-photos that goes on there than I have from any instructional post.

With the IC here to guide me, I have one girl - a Grape Skunk - that is 12 days from chop. (This is the only bagseed whose origin is confirmed, so I call it by name. It came from a single-strain SOG grow from clone. It has to be a Grape Skunk S1, and it matches the seedbank's description to a tee.)

Too many people deserve my thanks to cover, or even remember, so I'm going to give it to everyone. I won't miss anyone that way. :joint:

And if anyone has information on medical strains that are good for a patient like mine, I am all ears. The primary use is as an anti-inflammatory. All other considerations are secondary. (Ok, maybe odor is 1.5...ondary?)

In any case, if anyone's stuck through this post long enough to be reading this... That's why I am here. I smoke too, don't get me wrong. But I'm growing and getting serious about it because someone I care about needs medicine, and the better it is the better it will work for her. And it's not just about easing symptoms in her case. It means better control of her Lupus, fewer flareups - which can be fatal, any of them, at random - of lesser severity. It means a longer lifespan, more years with her son, and her husband, and hell... with me. It's important.

This place seems full of kindred spirits. I'm glad to be a part of it.

PS - bbing - I flubfingered the rep last night and gave you a red dot for what was a great post. I have rolled a joint full of this fine Jack Herer and some bubble hash from the jar even my roommate doesn't know about. It is delicious. I hope you will accept it as an apology!
